Panther Post

December 10, 2021
Dear Sullivan Families,

Our students have been working hard for the past two weeks, and are looking forward to the last week before winter break! We are excited for next week's Winter Break Spirit week, and if you missed the announcement on Seesaw, the themes are included below.

This week, Sullivan students took the iReady math and reading assessments. We use these results to monitor progress towards learning goals school-wide, as well as to plan instruction on a classroom and individual level. In January, we will take the FastBridge reading and math assessments in order to have a complete picture of where our kids are at this point in the year and plan instruction for the upcoming trimester.

We are so proud of how hard our students have worked during the first trimester, and we can't wait to see the great things they will do during trimester two! Have a wonderful weekend!

Warmly,

Traci Meziere
Principal

Cold Weather Reminders
As we move into the cooler months, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. Elementary students have outdoor recess whenever possible. Students perform better when they get outdoors, even if only for a few minutes. We follow the recess guidelines below:

  • Outdoor Recess: 10 degrees F and higher (including wind chill)
  • Inside Recess: below 10 degrees F (including wind chill)

When the weather turns snowy, students must have boots, gloves and snow pants to play in the snow. Those who don’t must stay on the blacktop area. Parents should assist children in preparing and wearing appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.
Sullivan Snapshots
Ambassadors Winter Outreach
Our Sullivan Ambassadors spent time this week creating bingo boards for our friends at Aspired Living to provide some fun during these cold months!
Sullivan Robotics

The Sullivan Robotics Teams and Coach Ms. Funk, our 5th-grade teacher, will be headed to the Mount Prospect Regional Competition this weekend! Teams worked on identifying a problem with moving packages and getting supplies to new locations. They created a project and built prototypes to make their ideas come to life. The teams built robots, added attachments to their Lego robots, and used coding to move robots across a playing field or mat to complete missions. Most importantly, teams learned about communication, teamwork, innovation, making an impact, and had so much fun! Congratulations to the fourth-grade team, Package Panthers, and the fifth-grade team, Legozon, on a successful competition season. Good luck this weekend teams!
Physical Education @Sullivan
