We use standards based grading at the elementary level. Students receive grades of 1, 2, 3, or 4, in each subject area. 1 means the student is working below grade level expectation, 2 means the student is approaching the grade level expectation, 3 means the student has reached grade expectation and 4 means the student is working above grade level expectations. In December, it is not expected that every student receive 3s in every subject. The students are still learning content.
This week we will hold a lock down drill on Thursday, December 16, at 10 AM. We have been talking to students about lock down drills and we have kept the conversation light, especially with our youngest students. It is, however, very important students know what to do in an emergency. (We remind students our school is always locked and very safe, but we do need to be prepared in the rare instance we may need to go into lock down). Officer Shane Coyle, our resource office at Penn Delco and a member of the Aston Police Department, will help us on the 16th. Officer Coyle visits our building often, so students are used to seeing him. The students will sit in their classrooms silently with their teacher for about 15 minutes. We keep it as light as possible and students will know it is only practice. Please email sphillips@pdsd.org if you have questions.
Our annual holiday shop was a great success. Thank you to Sarah Kurpel and Amy Messick for organizing this and to all of the parent volunteers who helped to make this happen.
Holiday parties are happening soon. Just a reminder that as of today, we are still only allowing modified visitation in the building. Homeroom parents are allowed to bring in supplies and set up for parties, but they can not run parties at this time.
