Movin' West
Incoming West High School 9th Graders & Families are invited to watch our interactive virtual presentation "Movin' West" on Monday, May 3, after 4pm. This presentation will help you learn more about the "West Experience," including extracurricular activities, athletics, academic support and resources, and ways you can get involved. We want to help all West students feel welcome and included, because You Belong at West, and You'll be Strong at West. The presentation will be emailed directly to student and family emails and posted to our website on Monday, May 3, after 4pm.
Virtual Tutoring Recognition/Thank You
Ahe’hee (thank you) from Virtual Tutoring: We would like to recognize and thank the following peer tutors, Badger and community volunteers who gave of their time and talents through Virtual Tutoring and Achievement Connections. Our Peer Tutors and Badger/Community volunteers were matched one-on-one with students needing academic support, meeting once or twice a week! We are so appreciative of these tremendous volunteers!
Student Support Foundation Grant Recipients
A big Shout Out to members of the West Student Support Foundation!

It’s been a busy year for the West Student Support Foundation as we worked to support the West community in our focus areas of equity, education and environment.

The West SSF is funded through the generous support of the Morgridge Family Foundation. The foundation allows student members to learn about philanthropy, the grant-writing process, managing finances and helping others.

This year we have awarded grants which have supported the West High Community through:

Providing a scholarship for a student pursuing a degree in education
Covering the registration costs for students taking a competitive biology test.
Purchasing sound equipment to film Multico virtually.
Helping to pay the costs of licensing for the spring musical.
Planting trees in our community to honor the national struggles of the past year.
Providing CPR equipment for students in our health classes which reflects our diverse school population.
Providing students with headsets for virtual classwork.
Purchasing yoga mats, cushions, and blankets for students to practice mindfulness in our Mindfulness Club.
Restocking our West Wellness Pantry with clothing, personal hygiene supplies, and non-perishable food for students and families in need.
Purchasing access to virtual platforms to support online learning.
Building student pride through the purchase of specialized masks for students in our Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program and Black Student Union (BSU) club.
Providing an opportunity for the Asian United Club at West to team-build, design workshops and raise awareness of the Asian American Pacific Islander Community and design.
Helping with the purchase of special mugs for this year’s Senior class.

If you would like to be a part of the Student Support Foundation, we are always looking for dedicated individuals with an interest in helping others and the West community. Check the West Club listings for our meeting times.
Summer School Work Credit
MMSD high school students have the opportunity to earn elective high school credit through summer work, caretaking, or volunteer experiences. The number of credits earned is based on the number of documented work/volunteer hours (.5 credits/45 hours during Summer 2021 due to COVID-19). Students can get started with the enrollment process right away. Please review the following process for the Work Based Learning program.
