A Word from the President
If you have young children, this might be one of the most exciting weeks of the year. Time for costumes!  Candy!! And they even get to walk around your neighborhood after dark!!!

Kids have a way of growing up quickly (some would argue too quickly), and before you know it they'll be considering college. We've likely all heard the news lately that more and more young adults are saddled with student loan debt, and that the percentage who are defaulting on their loans is increasing. I'll reveal my age when I say I can remember when my college tuition was $365 per semester at Pittsburg State University for 18 hours of classes, which included additional fees.  Today's in-state tuition at Pitt State for a full-time student is $3,669, more than 10 times what I paid.  Granted, all costs have increased over the years, but is it any wonder that student debt is so high?

This year the KCK Women's Chamber provided $7,500 in scholarships to help non-traditional women continue their educations with fewer worries about the cost.  That's why our annual Purses with a Purpose event is so important.  Thank you to the committee members who planned and coordinated the event, and to everyone who attended (a record number!).  You've helped to make the lives of many deserving women just a bit brighter.  See you all again next year!
