are sharing some information with you directly on what we are doing to prepare for and address the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in Pennsylvania. We recognize the information is concerning for our families, students, faculty, and staff. Please be assured, there are NO known cases of COVID-19 at York Catholic at this time. Further, there are NO known cases reported in York County at this time.
Our main objective at York Catholic is to provide a safe learning environment. We are closely following the guidelines and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), Pennsylvania Department of Public Health, and the City of York Board of Health on the steps we can take to help prevent the spread of the virus. Updates are literally changing by the hour. We have initiated the following steps in response to the threat of the coronavirus.

Cleaning/Disinfecting
- Our cleaning staff has been diligently wiping down community surfaces (stair railings, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, etc.).
- The hand sanitizer dispensers located in the hallways are being used and refilled as needed.
- We are removing unnecessary clutter and keeping windows open whenever possible.
- Bus companies are disinfecting buses on a daily basis.
Student Actions
- Students are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles and only use water fountains for refilling bottles and not for drinking directly from the spouts. Students are reminded that shareable food or drink is not permitted at any time.
Updates
- We are meeting daily, often with local and regional health and government officials, as well as other districts, to discuss the potential impact of coronavirus on our school.
- We are sharing the following fact sheets and information resources with our school community:
Changes to Schedules/Activities
- We are preparing for the possibility of having to alter our school schedules should the situation change; however, no plans are in place to change our schedule at this time.
- At this time, we have not been advised to cancel school or extra-curricular activities. We are reviewing all upcoming events daily and in conjunction with any new updates to the situation provided by the Centers for Disease Control, the PA Department of Health, and the City of York Board of Health. The Diocese of Harrisburg has directed us to suspend field trips at this time. This will re-evaluated on March 27 and any extension of that directive will be communicated at that time.
- We continue to closely monitor the situation and will keep you updated of any changes to our current protocol. Please continue to refer to our official York Catholic communications methods:
- As always, if we need to alter our schedule for any reason, you will also be notified through our One Call Now system.

Tuition figures for next year will be published in early April after budget approval by the School Board. In order to budget appropriately, we are asking families to re-enroll now. The re-enrollment fee is $250.00 per student, with an increase to $300.00 after

The York Catholic Athletic Booster Club is hosting Designer Handbag Bingo Sunday, May 3, at 2 PM at YC. Handbags from Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and Tory Burch will be available to win. Our March 2020 Missions Collection in Lent is for a cause near and dear to our YC hearts, OutreachPARAGUAY, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization started in 2012 by our Spanish teacher, Milner Sosa, and his wife, Eileen. Senor Sosa is a native of Paraguay and met Eileen while she was serving with the Peace Corps. Their love for the country and the recognition of the needs of its citizens are never far from their thoughts so they created OutreachPARAGUAY to give back. Year-round, the Sosa family gathers items to help support medical and educational needs within Paraguay, and each summer, they organize a group to deliver the items. Monetary donations help to fund the maintenance of local health posts and schools in rural areas, medical supplies and instruments, teaching resources,
books for elementary schools in rural areas, and the shipping of gently used clothing. Missions Collection Day is Wednesday, March 18, during homerooms.

| Scholarships Available for Students |
York Catholic is proud of the success of its students earning college scholarships over the years. More than 71% of last year's graduating class collectively earned over $13 million in scholarship offers. The Guidance Department keeps an updated list of local, regional, and national scholarship opportunities in the Career Room and in the 2020 College & Career Google Classroom. The following special scholarships are available with deadline dates fast approaching. Please note that one of them is for a current Junior to be used toward Senior year tuition at York Catholic.
Scholarships for current Juniors
Dr. George M. and Mrs. Mary E. Johnson Scholarship
This scholarship is for a current York Catholic junior interested in pursuing a career in medicine. The scholarship is used toward the student's York Catholic tuition during his or her senior year at York Catholic.
Applicants should exemplify leadership qualities and skills through his/her participation in class, extracurricular clubs, groups, or activities. The student will also uphold and practice the moral and religious principles of the Roman Catholic faith.

Scholarships for current Seniors
Ray Tyo St. Ferdinand Scholarship (Diocese of Harrisburg)
This scholarship is valued at approximately $8,000 divided over four years and is awarded to one student from each diocesan high school within the Diocese of Harrisburg. The requirements are as follows: 1) be a practicing Catholic manifesting good moral character, 2) be a student in good standing, 3) be accepted for study at a Catholic institution of higher learning, 4) have a need for financial assistance and, 5) have the recommendation of student's high school administrator. The Reverend William J. Fitzpatrick Memorial Scholarship
The Reverend William J. Fitzpatrick Memorial Scholarship Fund grants scholarship aid to a senior student at York Catholic High School who resides in York County, and who will major in a branch of engineering or a science related to engineering in college. Scholarships to be awarded for academic year 2020-2021 will be at least $1250 per semester.

O'Neill Health Sciences Scholarship
The O'Neill Health Sciences Scholarship is for students who will major in a health care field in college (four year or two year) such as nursing, pre-med, dental hygiene, etc. Selection will be based on grades, SAT/ACT scores, interest, financial need, and teacher recommendation.

Stephen M. Leiser Memorial Scholarship

YC is holding Bring a Friend to School Day on Monday, March 23. Current students can encourage an interested friend (from dance class, scouts, a sports team, your neighbor or cousin, etc.) to spend the day at YC as a shadow student. Students wishing to attend the Senior Picnic must register in advance (details coming later) and be academically eligible. On Thursday, March 19, we will celebrate our cultural heritages with a World Languages Mass planned by our Language Department at 10:20 AM in the auditorium. Prayers and music will be in English, Spanish, German, Latin, and some of the other languages spoken by our students.

| Culture Club Heritage Night |
York Catholic's International Culture Club is hosting a Heritage Night on Friday, March 20, from 6-8 PM in the YC Lobby. There will be free, culturally-diverse foods available at the beginning of the evening, as well as cultural dances, activity tables, a fashion show, and much more. Bring the family as we unite in celebrating the rich diversity of our York Catholic Family. Students will be collecting school supply donations (markers, pencils, pens, small coloring books) for Outreach Paraguay, Senor Sosa's non-for-profit organization.

Students in 9th-12th grade English classes have been presenting speeches in English class with the top presentations moving on to the semi-finals and finals. On Friday, March 13, speech finalists take the stage in an all school assembly at 9:45 AM. Family members are welcome to attend.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown York has been cancelled. Thanks to everyone who had planned on attending and cheering for our Marching Band, cheerleaders, athletes, and participating students.

 In preparation for changing the uniform dress code for the 4th marking period, York Catholic is hosting a uniform exchange to assist students who are in need of uniform items. The uniform exchange will be available for trades and purchases on Wednesday, March 18, from 3-5 PM. Walk-ins on days other than this date cannot be accommodated. If you need uniforms, bring your gently worn items for an even trade or purchase some at a reduced price: skirts $10, pants $8, sweaters $6, shirts $4. Spring sports teams will have pictures taken on Thursday, March 12, and Friday, March 13. Athletes must be clean shaven and have regulation haircuts. All undershirts must be the same color and be PIAA-legal.
Coaches will distribute the order forms prior to picture day. On those order forms, you will be able to purchase team photos, along with several different individual packages. The forms must be returned to the photographer with payment on picture day. If the forms are misplaced, please click here to place your order. Print the receipt and have your child present it to the photographer on picture day. When the completed photo packages are delivered by Lifetouch, they will be given to the coaches to distribute to those who placed orders. Pictures will be taken using the following schedule:

Keep your eye out for the new volunteer process as we will implement the use of Sign-up Genius to schedule volunteers to work the gates and concession stands for our home lacrosse games this spring. This new Sign-up will allow more people the ability to volunteer at our home games to better support our athletes and our program.

The conference includes more than 45 workshops, priests hearing confessions, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, many Catholic vendors and time for food and fellowship. Bishop Gainer will be celebrating Mass as well as presenting a workshop. The conference is open to any man, Catholic or non-Catholic. | St. Rose Murder Mystery Party |
St. Rose of Lima School is hosting "A Wee Bit O' Murder," a St. Patrick's Day Murder Mystery Party, on Saturday, March 14, at 6 PM at the school in Thomasville. Enjoy an Irish Pub dinner and mingle with suspicious characters until one of the characters meets their untimely demise. You'll interrogate the suspects to figure out "whodunit" with prizes awarded to the best sleuths. Guests must be 21 years of age or older. Cost is $30 per person. During inclement weather that would cause a school closing or delay of schedule, York Catholic will call/text/email you through our One Call Now Emergency Notification system. Other modes of notification include WGAL TV-8, Fox43, and the YC website. Students from individual school districts are automatically excused if their district closes and does not provide transportation to YCHS. The exceptions to this are Southern and Southeastern. These students follow York Catholic's delay and closing schedule.
