CHANGES TO OFFICE OPERATIONS

The Housatonic Council continues to closely monitor the COVID situation in the area and throughout the state.

Beginning on Monday, November 30, the main office will be closed to the general public until further notice.

What does this mean?

The Housatonic Council will be minimizing our interactions. We will not allow walk-ins past the door of the foyer. All transactions will be handled through the sliding window by the front desk. We will try our best to accommodate your needs by phone, emails or Zoom calls.

If you require advancement, we will continue to assist you with these requests. Once your advancement is ready for pickup you will be contacted. Please call us when you arrive, and it will be waiting for you on the table in the foyer.

If you require additional assistance or to meet with Carole Cafaro or John Zseller, please call the Housatonic Council office at 203-734-3329.

CONGRATULATIONS TO...

PACK 28 & PACK 24, SHELTON - Webelos from these two packs participated in a rocket launch. There was lots of fun and excitement at the rocket launch, but fun and safety was had by all. The Pack re-enacted some of Nike’s former glory days with some launches achieving 1,500’+. One rocket did go into the low cloud deck and we never saw it again. The Webelos are Ready, to Launch again, so they are looking forward to a summer launch in our future.

Pack 28, Tigers took a trail hike working on their 100 mile patches and tiger achievements.

Popcorn Achiever - Congratulations to Braydon who entered our $250 Popcorn Campaign Prize program and won! Here he is with his Amazon gift card. Great job Braydon!

HELP CELEBRATE THE COUNCIL'S 100TH ANNIVERSARY

We want your unit to continue the Housatonic Council's 100th Anniversary Celebration. We have two ways you can participate:

Request a 100th Anniversary flag for an opening ceremony. Take a photo and share with the Council.
If your chartering organization has an outdoor flagpole arrange with them to fly the 100th Anniversary Flag on their outdoor flagpole. Take photos or a video of your unit raising the flag.

COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR YOUR SCOUTS

Color A Smile is a nonprofit organization that distributes cheerful drawings to Senior Citizens, Our Troops Overseas, and anyone in need of a smile.

Its pretty simple to volunteer your time:

Go to their website: https://colorasmile.org/
Print out some pages from there website.
Color to your hearts content (no glitter, an organization that I can support, lol)
Sign the drawing. (no dates or messages)
Mail it back

Color A Smile averages that it takes ~10 mins per drawing. So, keep track of how many drawings you completed. Color A Smile will send back a form validating your volunteered time.

So, something fun and simple that our Scouts can do to help someone else around the globe have a brighter day.

SCOUTING'S FUTURE IN THE LOWER NAUGATUCK VALLEY

INFORMATION FROM THE VALLEY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (VCF) - On Tuesday afternoon November 17th, VCF hosted a virtual event featuring Dr. Russell James to discuss financial planning with a focus on charitable impact.

James explored how people could take advantage of special one-time opportunities - how the circumstances of the pandemic, market fluctuations, interest rate drops, CARES Act tax law changes, and SECURE Act tax law changes has led to some attractive opportunities for those with charitable interests.
