Greetings!
This past Sunday the
Unity of Mesa talk was focused on friendship, gleaned from
"Lessons of the Turtle: Living Right Side Up." Rev. Kathy Kellogg had some poignant things to say about friendship and the topic has stayed with me all week long.
If you’ve known me or my business for even just a short while, you know my tag line is “You are not alone.” It arose from my experience of “coming to believe” and no longer feeling alone in the world because I had become aware of a higher power in my life--God, Spirit, The Divine, The Presence, The Source, whatever you want to call It. But this tag line is about the human plane too, sharing life with others, asking for help, walking a path with another. Friends.
"Friends in your life are like pillars on your porch. Sometimes they hold you up and sometimes they lean on you. Sometimes it's just enough to know they're standing by." - Elizabeth Foley
I don’t know about you, but I do not come from a family that was close, communicative, loving, or very supportive. And, basically, they didn’t understand me nor accept me for who they thought I was. So friends, rather than blood relatives, have always been a big part of my life. They’re the ones I’ve felt connected to, the ones with whom I’ve laughed, cried, sung, traveled. The ones I’ve shared the milestones of Life with.
In these times of much staying at home and not being able to socialize in-person, we are still able to connect with friends. I know it can be easy to fall into isolation, but we cannot be happy and whole if we isolate. Friends are truly our life support, my life support. We can still be emotionally and spiritually connected with them during these extraordinary times.
There is the idea of having time alone to be in the stillness, seek renewal and refreshment. But then there is the space of total isolation. I LOVE my time alone, but I surely need to spend time with my friends. When we allow others to help and support us, we find the energy to move, to grow, to blossom. Even during these times.
Help is always with us. In our friends, in Spirit. We are not alone.
I hope you enjoy this particularly fun version of "(You’ve Got to Have) Friends" by Bette Midler, accompanied by her long-time friend, Barry Manilow, and others.

Inspiration and Contemplation
Soul, God, and Friend
I sought my soul, but my soul I could not see.
I sought my God, but my God eluded me.
I sought my friend and I found all three.

Spirituality
Friends and Spiritual Maturity
"We need loving and caring friends with whom we can speak from the depth of our heart. Such friends can take away the paralysis that secrecy creates. They can offer us a safe and sacred place, where we can express our deepest sorrows and joys, and they can confront us in love, challenging us to a greater spiritual maturity."
- Henri J. M. Nouwen

“The best things in life are free and friendships are one of those free things,” said Donna Granberry, the mother of Jordan Granberry.
For the families of Jordan Granberry and Odin Frost, the two boys’ friendship is the most important.
“To me, it’s such a beautiful sign when they communicate with each other without using words, that’s so much deeper than friendship,” said Tim Frost, Odin’s dad. “That’s a brotherhood; they’re brothers."

“Sometimes I think, what is friend?
And me think, friend someone to give up last cookie for." - Cookie Monster
Would you give up your last cookie for your friend?!
Have fun!

You, Me, and Spirit
I was a devout atheist until 30 years ago when I "came to believe" in a Power greater than myself. Thanks to hearing the novel idea (well, at least it was to me!) that one could choose their own concept of God--and name too (Spirit, The Great Mystery, All That Is, etc.)--and the workings of synchronicity, I embarked on a new way of thinking, a new way of living, a new way of being in the world and with others. It impacted all aspects of my life and relationships.
Since that time of commencing my conscious spiritual journey, I have endeavored to remember The Presence in all that is, all whom I meet, and all that I do -- including working with clients in my own business and in the corporate world. I strive to be of service and to nurture the human spirit in all environments.
