Dear Riordan Students and Parents,

It is clear that the COVID surge of the Omicron variant is hitting all communities in some capacity. Our hope is that as we continue to be vigilant in our efforts to protect ourselves, we can help stop the spread and protect our community at large.

Our Learning Environment
We have received a few questions asking about a return to hybrid learning. Unfortunately it is not easy as it takes a great deal of preparation to teach in both mediums, and neither students at home or students in the classroom get the full benefits. Riordan met with Academic Deans at other Catholic Schools in the Bay area, and none are doing synchronous Zoom classes right now for the same reason. Our goal is to remain in person, which is essential to promoting student mental health.

  • Teachers are aware of when students are missing due to illness and will be lenient and supportive when students are able to return. Students should reach out to their teachers to ensure they are up to date and understand the assignments.

  • We have asked teachers to do an audio recording of each of their classes and post that audio to Schoology after each class. Here is a video showing how to access that audio.

  • Teachers post all lessons and instructions on Schoology so students have access to the same materials that their classmates do.

Health and Safety Protocols / How to Respond to a Possible Exposure
With the changing guidelines from the CDC and the SF Department of Public Health, we ask that you become familiar with this information and that if an exposure happens you will be able to understand the steps and information as outlined for a safe return to campus.

All resources listed below are directly from the San Francisco Department of Public Health Website. Our COVID Response Team is in direct contact with the Department of Public Health on every case connected to our school. We will follow their direction and it is subject to change.

Please note:

  • Should you receive an exposure notice, please read the email notice in its entirety as it contains exact next steps listed for each individual.

  • COVID Notifications are done to the very best of our resources. Seating charts may change or additional students will be added to close contact/exposure based on clubs and other student activities.

  • Athletics notifications are sent out separately from classroom notifications.

  • Families with more than 1 student on campus should treat both as if they have been exposed simply because they are in the same home. Notifications are a blanket notice, but we can inform you of which of your students has been exposed.

  • All absences should be made to attendance@riordanhs.org and all COVID-related notifications for positive or negative cases should be made to COVID@riordanhs.org

Thank you,

Riordan Administration
