Corrected: March 7 Referendum Vote - Landscape Maintenance Equipment

**Corrected: Last week's newsletter had the correct date, but the incorrect day of the week, for the Annual Town Election. The correct day/date is Monday, March 7

In addition to voting for candidates seeking local elected office, voters will be asked to weigh in on Question 1 at the 2022 Annual Town Election on Monday, March 7.

This question is in regards to an action taken during 2021 Special Town Meeting last fall to limit the use of outdoor landscape equipment and eventually prohibit gas-powered leaf blowers.

The text of the question is as follows:

Shall the town vote to approve the action of the representative town meeting whereby it was voted to amend Chapter 80 of the Code of Lexington, limiting the use of outdoor landscape maintenance equipment to specified days and hours and further to impose restrictions and eventual prohibitions on the use of gas powered leaf blowers?

Voting on Question 1

YES: A ‘yes’ vote will affirm the vote taken at the 2021 Special Town Meeting to limit the use of outdoor landscape equipment and will eventually prohibit the use of gas-powered leaf blowers.

NO: A ‘no’ vote will seek to overturn the vote taken at the 2021 Special Town Meeting regarding landscape maintenance equipment and the eventual prohibition of gas-powered leaf blowers.

Please note that the turnout at the Election has to be at least 20% of registered voters. Otherwise, the referendum fails automatically and Article 10 is adopted.

If the turnout meets the 20% threshold, the vote on Article 10 will stand unless overturned by:

  1. At least 20% of the registered voters of the Town; AND
  2. A majority vote of those voting
