CCTU JANUARY CHAPTER MEETING
TUESDAY, JANUARY 18, 7PM
IN-PERSON AT CRESTHILL MIDDLE SCHOOL & ZOOM SIMULCAST
TAYLOR EDRINGTON, ROYAL GORGE ANGLERS,
FLY FISHING THE SEASONS OF THE ARKANSAS RIVER: NORTH AMERICA’S LONGEST GOLD MEDAL TROUT STREAM
|
|
Taylor Edrington is the Owner/President of Orvis Endorsed Outfitter Royal Gorge Anglers in Canon City – the oldest fly shop and guide service on the Arkansas River. The Arkansas River is the longest Gold Medal River in Colorado, and Taylor will fill you in on how to be successful on this river. Taylor will discuss change in flows and water temperature throughout the year and how that drives bug activity and corresponding trout activity. Taylor will key on specific techniques, rigs, patterns, and mindsets that will help anglers boost productivity on the Arkansas and other similar freestone watersheds. Taylor literally grew up on the Arkansas River and his lifetime of experience is invaluable to any fly fisher striving to fish it effectively.
If Taylor is willing to drive up here from Canon City…we hope that CCTU members turn out in force for his presentation! As our first meeting back in person, we are encouraging strong attendance with a "boosted" raffle program. This month’s raffle will include flies, but also an Orvis Guide Slingpack, Orvis Mudroom Wader Bag, Tool, Fly Boxes and more. Raffle program only available to in-person attendees.
NOTE - Regardless of your vaccination status, we are asking all meeting attendees to wear masks...for your safety and the safety of those around you.
If you can’t make the meeting in person and want to join in via Zoom, go to…
or go to www.zoom.com and use Meeting ID: 821 4786 5436, Passcode: Cutthroat

CCTU CONSERVATION & FLY FISHING YOUTH CAMP
NOMINATE A CCTU SCHOLARSHIP CANDIDATE TODAY!
|
|
This fantastic camp is designed to educate 14 to 18 year old students on the importance of cold-water conservation and provide hands-on fly fishing instruction. It was originally established by Sharon Lance, former CCTU and CTU President. Approximately 22 students are selected each year, based on their qualifications and a written essay on why they would like to attend the camp. Final details on the camp and applications are coming this month, but it usually runs for seven days in early June at Silent Springs Resort near Gunnison, CO. Student applications are normally due by Aril 1. To find out more info on the camp, please go to https://coloradotu.org/youthcamp. The Cutthroat Chapter will fund four scholarships that will send four students to Youth Camp at no charge. Please contact CCTU President Scott Tampa (scott.a.tampa@gmail.com) if you are interested in finding out more about the scholarships or if you want to recommend a potential student for a CCTU scholarship.

FLY OF THE MONTH - LARRY KINGREY'S GOLDEN STONEFLY NYMPH
|
The Golden Stonefly Nymph is an absolute staple in the spring throughout the Arkansas drainage. Who better to show you his favorite pattern, than the late, great Larry Kingrey. Larry managed the guide service, was a key instructor, and tied commercially for Royal Gorge Anglers for nearly 30 years. His patterns were cutting edge, including some of the earliest foam and synthentic patterns. Would not visit the Arkansas River without this very realistic pattern, whose subtle colors are an excellent match for the naturals found there.
