October 2019

Dear friend in Christ,
October has been a mixed month at the monastery. Four of our sisters have passed. As I'm sure each and every one of you has experienced, it is always hard to lose people who form part of our inner circle. It's a time when our faith in the message of the Resurrection is put to the test and we are called to place our trust in the God of love in a very profound way.
The mystery of death is recognized by the Church in a special way next month. We celebrate the feasts of All Saints and All Souls on November 1 and 2, and the whole month is dedicated to remembrance of the dead. We hope that you will allow the sisters to pray for your loved ones who have passed throughout November (see Book of Life below).
We love to pray for you and were humbled by the number who sent prayer requests for the sisters to include during celebrations honoring the dedication of Sacred Heart Chapel. We included petitions at Eucharist on October 24, the day of the feast, and on the following Saturday and Sunday. The prayer requests have now been sent to Saint Scholastica Convent in St. Cloud where the sisters will continue to pray for your intentions.
May November bring you many blessings and may your dear, deceased ones rest in peace,

We had two international sisters temporarily living with us here at Saint Benedict's Monastery: Sister Chinh from Vietnam (left) and Sister Maria Leticia from Brazil (second from left). Sisters Philip Zimmer (right) and Laura Suhr (second from right) took our guests on a true Minnesota outing: Admiring the fall foliage at Itasca State Park, the start of the Mississippi River!

November is traditionally the month when we especially remember those who have died and gone before us. Throughout this month, we will be praying for all the people listed in the Book of Life located in the Gathering Place. We invite you to add the names of your deceased loved ones. If you cannot do this in person, please
contact Sister Shirley Nohner and she will add their names.

The chapel was dedicated in 1914 on completion of the building and consecrated in 1943 when the mortgage was fully paid.
