Christmas Parade: Dec. 5, Register to Participate by 5 p.m. Nov. 30
|
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here, and the 3rd Annual City of Cumming Christmas Parade is just around the corner on Saturday, Dec. 5, beginning at 5 p.m. The parade will flow from Forsyth Central High School down Tribble Gap/Castleberry Road, through downtown Cumming, and end at the Cumming Fairgrounds. The festival following the parade at the Fairgrounds will not be held this year, but a small "tree" lighting will be presented at the Fairgrounds at approximately 6 p.m. to ignite the large tree-shaped Christmas light display on the outside of the arena.
Groups such as businesses, churches, Boy and Girl Scout troops, antique car clubs, and civic organizations are invited to participate in the parade. There is no registration fee, but those participating must register by 5 p.m. on Nov. 30 by filling out the Parade Registration Form and returning it to cledford@cityofcumming.net.
Tribble Gap/Castleberry Road will be closed to traffic beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 and will remain closed until the parade is completed at approximately 6:30 p.m. Participants and spectators of the parade are encouraged to wear masks and socially distance themselves as much as possible.

City Council Recognizes November as Hospice and Palliative Care Month
|
Mayor Troy Brumbalow and City Council presented a proclamation during their regular Nov. 17th meeting recognizing November as Hospice and Palliative Care Month. Representatives of Bridgeway/Affinity Hospice Services, which provide end-of-life care for families in Forsyth and throughout north Georgia, were in attendance to accept the proclamation.
Also during the November Work Session and Regular Meeting, City Council:
- Granted an easement to Georgia Power for property located at 203 East Main Street and Veterans Memorial Boulevard. The easement is required to upgrade an existing transmission line.
- Approved an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance with allows for regulation of open-air markets within the City.
- Held a public hearing on the City's tentative 2021 budget with no one speaking in favor or opposition to the proposed budget. Council will vote on the proposed budget during their December work session.
- Approved a recommendation from an audit selection committee comprised of City employees from the administration and financial departments to select Rushton and Company, LLC to audit the City's financial statements for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2020, with the option of auditing its financial statements for each of the four subsequent fiscal years. The proposal from Ruston and Company was one of four that were received by the committee.
- Awarded a bid to Jasper Grading and Pipeline, Inc. for extension of Buford Dam Road from Castleberry Road to Veterans Memorial Boulevard. Jasper Grading was one of five proposals that were received for the project.
- Approved a bid from Sol Construction for upgrades to the Cumming Utilities' Water Production Facility. The upgrades will provide a better and more efficient means of adding activated powdered carbon during the treatment process to combat unusual tastes and odors arising from naturally occurring contaminants, such as algae, in Lake Lanier. Sol Construction was one of four proposals that were received for the project.
- Approved two of three requested amendments to zoning conditions that were placed on the Westshore development earlier this year. The denied amendment request concerned an extended timeline for construction of retail outparcels, while the approved amendments concerned slight changes to the average square footage of some residential units. Council also approved an additional requested condition concerning setback requirements on internal property lines.
- Announced that City Hall and all other non-essential City departments and facilities will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
