President's Message
Paul Dunne
This weekend was particularly difficult for many in the nonprofit world. The news is breaking very slowly about the passing of Simone Joyeaux, one of the giants of the fundraising world. I was privileged to work with Simone as she was one of the featured speakers at our DFW Philanthropy In Action Conference in 2019. (I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that this conference is coming up once again, and virtually, on June 3rd and 4th). But back to Simone. Even though she and I approached our work differently, I still respected her amazing bravery and ability to motivate people. In my thank you note to her, I shared these thoughts and in true Simone manner, here is the beautiful note she returned to me.
Dearest Paul.

I'm tearing up. And thinking of going out onto my sunny porch and eat some yogurt and cry a bit. I've been gong through a rough patch for several months. Probably more like half a year. Your invitation to be me...was a wonderful feeling. But more than that, once I got to DFW/Irving. Your joy and greetings. Your affirmation for me to go forth. Several women who came up to me before my session started. And one in particular who talked with me at some length about my courage and her admiration and...And then participants afterwards. And now this note from you. I didn't know that I needed you, Paul. But I did. And I do. I've started the healing process, I think (and I sure hope so!!) You're part of the start.

Thank you so much.

And I'm keeping your note forever.

Peace, Simone
This was Simone Joyeaux. She made me think, she made me excited about my profession, she was hilarious and she loved helping others. When you get a moment, please say a prayer or send your good thoughts to her husband, Tom Ahern - another good friend to the Greater Dallas AFP Chapter.

Rest in Power Simone.

How to Rule with LGBTQ Donors

As first presented at the 2019 AFP International Conference (AFPIcon), join Mack E. Campbell, CFRE, to learn ways to engage LGBTQ donors. In tackling this tough subject, you'll better understand your organization's role in the LGBTQ community, learn more about giving perspectives, review and correct internal bias, and receive strategies for Gift Officers.

Mack E. Campbell, CFRE, is Director of Development for NPower, an organization working to launch digital careers for military veterans and young adults from underserved communities. He has more than 15 years of fundraising experience, serving previously as Regional Director of Development with After School All Stars, Senior Major Gifts Officer with Lambda Legal, and Director of Development & Marketing for Jonathan’s Place. Mack has presented at the 2019 and 2018 Association of Fundraising Professionals International Conference (AFPICON), at six DFW Philanthropy in Action Conference, and the Blackbaud Conference for Non-Profits in 2011. He received his Master’s in Public Administration with a focus on non-profit management from the University of North Texas in 2007, and attained the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential in 2015. For his work in the LGBTQ community in Dallas, Mack was selected as Dallas Pride Grand Marshal in 2019.
