MKE TECH News
Issue 22 - August 14, 2020
MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
The MKE Tech Hub Coalition hasn’t taken the traditional summer vacation. Instead we continue our fast growth including executing on several commitments made in our June newsletter:
  • Addition of a Board-Member-At-Large to increase our diversity of experience on the Board Level. I am very thrilled to announce that Jason Fields, Wisconsin State Legislator and Managing Director of Dark Knight Capital has agreed to serve on our Board. His experience in government, startup capital, and his work in the community will be a tremendous benefit to the Coalition.
  • Addition of Sponsored non-profit members. The board agreed to criteria to sponsor memberships for non-profits who are directly contributing to our mission.  We are proud to state that Beyond STEM, GearBox Labs, Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee (HPGM), i.c.stars, NCWIT-WI, SHARP Literacy, STEM Forward and TEALS have been approved as sponsored memberships to the Coalition. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to us at contact@mketech.org.

In addition, we have two new members this month including Molson Coors and American Family Insurance who will be joining the Coalition.  We’re thrilled to see this expansion as our collective action is what will enable us to grow the Tech ecosystem in SE Wisconsin!

Virtual Tech Internship Program
The Virtual Tech Internship Program was developed by The Commons in partnership with the Milwaukee Tech Hub Coalition to help students who lost their internship due COVID-19. The program wraps up this week. Over the past month, student teams completed a recording of their pitch in advance of demo day where mentors, employers and community members dropped in via Zoom to learn more about their proposed solutions. We also hosted an Intern Networking Day so that the interns could learn about the opportunities for employment in the region. We appreciate everyone who supported the program this summer!
