BGCAA family is selected for
2020 Austin American Statesman's Season for Caring!
Every year, Austin American Statesman selects 12 area families to participate in the Season for Caring, a tradition since 1999. Families are nominated by local organizations and their stories are highlighted through photos, testimonies, and videos. This year, BGCAA's nomination is for the Roussett family. Monica and James, and their five children, have been a Club family for over 10 years at Boys & Girls Club at Chalmers. Read their inspiring story of resilience as featured in Austin American Statesman Season for Caring HERE and learn how you can support the Rousette's during this season of giving.
Monica and James have been married for 27 years after being pregnant in high school. They put their education on hold to raise their five children.
"It was really hard with us being teenage parents not being able to afford daycare," Monica Roussett says. In 2006,13 years after dropping out of school, she earned her GED certificate. She scored high marks in math."I wanted to show my kids I could do it" she says.
