Nov. 24, 2019

Dear Carondelet Family and Friends,

A cool breeze on a warm day. The unexpected smile of a stranger. A favorite dish prepared with great care. A warm embrace from someone we love. Each and every day, we are surrounded by opportunities to be grateful. Too often, our busy lives or our worries distract us from recognizing these tremendous gifts we are given.

But not today. As we head into this week of Thanksgiving, I pray that you find the space to calm your fears, open your heart and slow down just enough to see the world and the people around you through eyes of gratitude.

Choose to focus on the abundant goodness of our humanity revealed through acts of kindness, both large and small. May we cherish the acts that we receive as well as those we offer to others.

Let us also take a moment to remind those we love - and those we may have overlooked - how grateful we are for having them in our lives. And reflect and give thanks for all our abundant blessings.

With deep gratitude and warmest wishes from our Carondelet family to yours,

Happy Thanksgiving,
Bonnie Cotter
President

In the nation's capital with Ven a Ver

From November 16-18, nearly 2,000 attendees, including a five student delegation from Carondelet gathered for the 22nd annual Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice in Washington, DC.  The 2019 theme,  Radical Hope, Prophetic Action , is rooted in the legacy of the Salvadoran martyrs who "stood with those at the margins of society at the cost of their own lives, taking prophetic action that expressed God's love for all people and all creation." In this 30th anniversary year, this theme affirms that, as people of  Radical Hope , we trust in God's promise of peace and justice - the vision of equality and dignity - and that, as people of  Prophetic Action , we read the signs of the times and join together to care for one another and our common home.

This was part of the Ven a Ver trip to Washington DC. Our Ven a Ver trips, which mean "come and see" in Spanish, are social justice immersion trips students may elect to attend.
Black College Expo comes to campus

Reps from  Black College Expo came to campus to talk to students and answer questions about opportunities for scholarships, admissions, and HBCUs. Thanks for a great intro event and discussion for our students!

The Black College Expo is a series of events around the country to educate all students about HBCUs and the college admission process. The overall goal is to encourage and promote the importance of higher education, while providing positive guidance and pathways towards positive post-secondary pursuits for students from underserved and underrepresented communities.
Carondelet's Madison Wu '21 and Madelyn Gamble '21

The 2019 State CIF/CGA Girls Golf Championship  was held at Poppy Hills Golf Course, Pebble Beach, this past Tuesday, November 19. It all began e arly Tuesday morning when fifty-four of the best California high school golfers began their quest to become the 2019 State Champion. Included in the competition were Carondelet's Madelyn Gamble, EBAL MVP, and Madison Wu, an All League Player.  The course conditions at Poppy Hills, were cold and windy, which made scoring extremely difficult! However, our Carondelet Varsity Golfers, Madelyn Gamble and Madison Wu played some the best golf of the championship.

Madelyn Gamble's 2-over par 73 , produced a 3rd place tie with six other players. The USGA's method of breaking ties, by comparing scorecards, awarded Madelyn the 4th Place Medal.  (In the competition amongst the 26 other Northern California golfers, Madelyn's 73, tied for FIRST!)  Madison Wu's 5-over par 76 , produced a tie for 18th in the state with five other players. ( In the competition amongst the 26 other Northern California golfers, Madison's 76, tied for FIFTH!)  Congratulations to both Madelyn and Madison on an amazing finish to a phenomenal season! Go Cougars!
