Maine Drilling & Blasting’s Foundation Services Group Helps Bring a New Train to Town
The Vermont Agency of Transportation contracted Kubricky Construction Corp. to replace two nearly 100-year-old rail bridges through the center of historic Middlebury, Vermont, to improve access for double stacked rail cars. Maine Drilling & Blasting was contracted as a first-tier subcontractor to complete the two miles of 13-3/8” soldier piles and install 165 tieback strand anchors with capacities of up to 190 kips to allow the excavation to reach depths of over 30 feet. Working through the cold Vermont winter, as well as performing essential work in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, MD&B finished on time and budget.
