Pacifica Synod e-Message
From the Bishop
March 28, 2020

Dear Pastors and Congregational Leaders of the Pacifica Synod,

The CARES Act, recently passed by Congress to alleviate the financial stress caused by the COVID-19 Coronavirus, has a provision that allows church employees to receive unemployment benefits. Church employees do not need to have paid into the plan but are eligible for benefits. This may be of help to preschool and other employees who have been laid off as a result of the need for social distancing.

More information on Disaster Unemployment Insurance may be found on California's Employment Development Department's web site here.

More in the bill is of benefit to churches and we will update you next week as we receive details from our friends in the ELCA Churchwide offices who are examining the bill. God bless you and your ministry in this time when we cannot be together.

Yours in Christ,

Bishop Andy Taylor / he, him, his
