October 24, 2019
Friends,
Every so often I find myself striding about our city, as if veiled in a cloak of invisibility. Thanks to the magic of a handheld device, we can disappear in an instant. Crushing emails. Racing deadlines. Polishing presentations en route to deliver them. Every day, we navigate virtual and visceral realms. But do we find safe space to remove that professional veil and to truly be known?

Christian community offers us such a safe haven, in which we can welcome and be welcomed for all we are—our gifts and our wounds, alike, embraced by God. Whether or not you were raised on Harry Potter, I hope you find sacred places to discover yourself as God sees you: beautiful, beloved, creative.

Allowing ourselves to be received in this way, within the Body of Christ, can prove life-changing—a bit like discovering Platform 9 and 3/4. On Sunday, All Saints’ will enter that alternate space within time, during our evening of Harry Potter and the Theological Imagination (details below).

Maybe you will join me (look for Tonks) and the rest of us, as we play with our miraculous Maker, who orchestrates endless possibilities in our lives. Even if you find yourself on some other platform that particular night, I encourage you to trust the Holy One, nudging you to let down your guard and let love’s magic come alive in you.
Gratefully,
The Rev. Sarah Stewart
Associate Rector for Young Adults and Innovation
