Message from the Director of Mathematics
When I was a sophomore in high school, it was a curricular requirement to perform community service. One of the opportunities was to tutor children with learning challenges and help them with their homework. As you may have already guessed, that was my first choice. Read more
Message from the Chief Finance and Operations Officer and the Strategic Planning Committee
Yavneh was founded over 38 years ago by parents who were inspired to create a Jewish day school in the South Bay. Our school has evolved over time with input and feedback from many stakeholders including parents, students, community members and faculty. Read more
Please complete the Parent Perception Surveys by Monday, December 16th
All parents and guardians are encouraged to participate in this survey on an individual basis. The following survey is anonymous but customized for each grade level to allow for effective use of the data. As such, we would appreciate you completing a separate survey for each child enrolled at Yavneh.
Reading Week
A special thank you to Yavneh Parent, Professor Aaron Hahn Tapper, the Mae and Benjamin Swig Professor in Jewish Studies and the founding Director of the Swig Program in Jewish Studies and Social Justice at University of San Francisco for his insightful and informative presentation last night. His book Judaisms explores, "What does it mean to be a Jew in the twenty-first century?”
All week long we have had guest readers in the classrooms including teacher swaps, and mystery parent readers. The children enjoyed virtual and in school author visits such as Jesse Orenshein ( The Strongest Man), Christine Evans (Evelyn the Adventurous Entomologist), Victoria Nelson ( Hiya Moriah), Margaret Greanias ( Maximillian Villainous), and Vicky Fang (whose books about courageous and innovative girls in STEAM come out this Spring).
On Monday, the whole school participated in a 15 minute DEAR (Drop Everything And Read).
Our Hebrew teachers performed the story “Ayelet Metayelet” in Hebrew yesterday for reading week.
Middle school students read to preschoolers at the APJCC.
Students and faculty dressed up as their favorite book characters on Wednesday.
