Featuring Connecticut's Amazing Land Trusts
Improving Communications for a Digital World
Four land trusts participating in the Northeast Land Trust Regional Advancement Initiative--a multi-year project offered by the Connecticut Land Conservation Council and The Last Green Valley with a grant from the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut--received small grants to improve their communications toolbox. Taking what they learned from individual and group sessions with communications consultant Judy Anderson, three of the land trusts chose to improve their websites and enhance their e-communications, while Joshua's Trust integrated LANDSCAPE software, a new approach to managing and communicating conservation projects. Impressive under normal circumstances, these communications projects have proven even more relevant in a COVID-influenced world...
Check out these other website projects...
Roxbury Land Trust recently refreshed their website and added great features including a new video with drone footage, updated photography, and a mobile friendly interface, so now people have access to trail maps on their phones as they explore 30 miles of land trust trails...
Recently, Morris Land Trust launched their brand new website providing an easy point of access for people to learn more about their organization, discover their conservation mission and conserved lands and find out how to get involved and support the land trust's work within the Town of Morris...
The Hudson to Housatonic (H2H) Regional Conservation Partnership is bringing their watershed-based conservation approach to life with a new StoryMap detailing conservation priorities in the region in relation to the New England and Mid-Atlantic Regional Watersheds. Illustrating the interconnectedness of the waterways and "in following our waterways to their origins, it becomes clear that our lands are connected too" creating an even stronger case for land conservation in Connecticut and New York...
CLCC land and wave
For many land trusts, particularly those without staff, taking on a website development project can be daunting. It requires time and resources and, for many volunteer communications coordinators, it often means putting new skills to work.

From annual meetings to fundraising events, volunteer recruitment to topical workshops, the pandemic has underscored the importance of being able to communicate and stay connected through on-line spaces.

Connecticut land trusts continue to demonstrate that they are up to the task!

#LoveYourCTLandTrust—for keeping us connected through compelling storytelling, creative communications, and new tech tools.
