Outdoor Clothing Giveaway

The Outdoor Clothing Giveaway has been scheduled for next Saturday, September 26 from 10-12. We will be setting up on Murray Field, and we are hoping to see all Newton Students who feel like doing some shopping for new (to them) cold weather gear!

We have gathered lots of fun stuff...from practical parkas to fun fingerless mittens! It's all free, so please make a note on your calendars and plan to come!

We are still accepting donations this next week. Please contact Kira if you would like to donate, or if your kids are in need of anything in particular.

Next PTA Meeting

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, October 6th at 6 pm. All meetings this year will be virtual. October's meeting will involve making decisions about Halloween.
Athletics News
This week starts the Newton soccer season! Practice days and times for each team are below.

Nurse's News
Hello! It's been wonderful to see the return of little and grown-up faces to the school!

Firstly, I want to thank all Newton families for all the graciousness experienced in response to the protocols for COVID19. Forgiveness and compassion has been the primary response to the strict guidelines we now must adhere to, and indeed learn about every day. This town has been overwhelmingly positive as we all navigate this new world together. It is not simple though. I understand the frustrations and inconveniences this has imposed on all of us. Thank you for upholding some amazing standards in this little town of Strafford despite these challenges. I am so glad I moved here!

With respect to the new COVID-19 guidelines and procedures there are some things we can do to alleviate absences or their duration... Read more

CLASSROOM NEWS
Kindergarten
Ms. Kicza
This week the kindergarten class kept building their routines, learned more about each other, and began some new work.
First Grade
Mrs. Robinson
We have had a very busy first couple of weeks! I am so impressed with how well everyone keeps their masks on. I am giving out very few reminders. Staying physically distant is more difficult however, but we’re working on that.
Second Grade
Mrs. Marzot
What a great week in second grade! We spent time this week working on our Hopes and Dreams, reading one on one with a teacher, graphing beetle glyphs, making facts to twenty, and exploring the Town Pond.
Third Grade
Ms. Coté
The third graders are building our routines, learning to take care of each other, and mastering our addition facts.

The first two weeks are busy with learning our routines like how to transition to the outside wolf territory. We are all busy learning how to stay 6 feet apart and keep washing our hands. The third graders are good listeners, helpful problem solvers and kind children. What a joyful experience!
Fourth Grade
Mr. Walker
It's been so great being back in school after all this time away! We have an amazing group of 4th graders, and it's been wonderful getting to know them as individuals. With that said, we have been working a lot on team-building. We have talked about how none of us is as good as all of us, that eleven brains working together is much stronger and much less stressful when given a difficult concept or task. More to come!
5th & 6th Grade
Ms. Tremblay
Fifth and 6th grade students in Mrs. Tremblay’s class are learning how to use Canva to create posters and Flipgrid to post them. They created a STEM cover and posted them in their digital notebooks. Our students also helped to create our outdoor classroom.
Middle School Math & Science
Mr. Reimanis
This week in science class the 7th and 8th grade took an unplanned detour to explore tendons, ligaments and more from recently processed pigs. Ask your student about it!
Middle School Literature & Social Studies
Mr. Breen
Our first week back has been exciting! There have been a lot of expectations and rules, and the kids have done great work adjusting to the new norm. In Social Studies, middle schoolers have been building their exhibits for a museum dedicated to their experiences in quarantine. In 7-8 ELA, we’ve been reading and analyzing poems.
