Stone Ridge Library is Fine Free!
The Stone Ridge Library joins a number of local libraries by going fine free beginning this month.

Please remember to return your materials in a timely manner so we can continue to share our resources with everyone. Patrons will still be responsible for replacing lost or damaged items but no fees will be assessed on late materials. It is important to the Library Board and Staff to remove any barriers that might prevent patrons from borrowing the wide range of materials we have available for our patrons.
Library Events
During the winter months all patrons participating in Stone Ridge Library sponsored groups are required to be vaccinated while in the building.

Mindful Mondays

Mindfulness is a skill that is practiced through meditation. It offers numerous benefits to our physical and emotional health, helping to reduce stress, improve concentration, cultivate kindness and experience greater emotional resilience.

Join us on Mondays at 2pm as we develop awareness, cultivate more presence, and strengthen our ability to bring mindfulness into our day-to-day lives.

These weekly drop-in sessions will include a short talk on the topic of the week, guided meditation, and opportunity for discussion. All levels of practitioners are welcome, no previous experience required. Come as often as you like.

There are two options to join:

ZOOM:
We’ll use this same Zoom link each week. No registration required for those who join via Zoom.
The Zoom link will also be available on the Library Home page.

IN-PERSON:
5 in-person slots will be available each week on a first come, first served basis. Sign up for a slot by registering on the Library’s online calendar.

Introduction to Medicare with Dan Calabrese
Tuesday, February 8,
7pm on Zoom

If you will soon be eligible for Medicare, or even if you already have Medicare, you will not want to miss this Introduction To Medicare. We will review the periods when you are eligible for Medicare, your costs for it, Original Medicare versus Medicare Advantage Plans, how supplements work with Medicare, Part D Prescription plans from the best way to pick one to understanding the consequences of not having one, the Medicare Part D “Donut Hole” and more. All this will be presented in an easy to understand format so that the confusion regarding the seemingly endless and overwhelming choices will be removed. Our presentation will be the realities of Medicare as opposed to the “fairytales” you may have seen recently on so many television commercials, which will discuss as well. There will also be time to ask any specific questions you may have. Register
Hudson River Lighthouses with Kevin Woyce
Thursday Feb. 17
7pm via Zoom Register

The Hudson River's first lighthouse was built in 1826 at Stony Point. By the early 1900s, more than a dozen lights guided ships past the river's islands and shallows.
Seven of them still exist.
Join us for a tour of the Hudson River's lighthouses, past and present -- from the long lost lights at Coxsackie and Stuyvesant to New York City's beloved "Little Red Lighthouse." Discover how and why these lighthouses were built, and hear the stories of the brave men and women who kept them shining. The program is illustrated with Kevin's original photographs of Hudson River lighthouses and landmarks, plus vintage images of historic people, places, and events.
Kevin Woyce is an author, photographer, musician, and lecturer, specializing in regional American history. Register

While waiting for rescue from the floor of her assisted living facility, she begins recounting the mystery of its newest resident, a man who looks and acts suspiciously like someone she was glad to see die sixty years ago. Aided by two unbelievably charming and loyal friends, Florence is determined to find out why he’s resurfaced. With dementia setting in, her mind isn’t as sharp as it once was, and the clues are hard to keep straight -- but she refuses to stop until the secrets are uncovered.

A History
Reading Club

Wednesday, February 23 Zoom meeting at 7pm

We are reading Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women by Geraldine Brooks. The story of Brooks' intrepid journey toward an understanding of the women behind the veils, and of the often contradictory political, religious, and cultural forces that shape their lives. Defying our stereotypes about the Muslim world, Brooks' acute analysis of the world's fastest growing religion deftly illustrates how Islam's holiest texts have been misused to justify repression of women, and how male pride and power have warped the original message of a once liberating faith.

Near & Far: an art exhibit by local artist Adrienne Mierzwa
January 1-Februray 28

The Stone Ridge Library is pleased to announce a reception for Near & Far, an exhibit featuring paintings by local artist Adrienne Mierzwa. “While focusing on local subjects that most people in the area are familiar with, I also want to take visitors on a little trip to some of the other locales that I love- especially as so many people are not able to travel right now.”

Along with paintings of our Hudson Valley neighborhood, there will be works portraying the Rye/Sound Shore area, Cape Cod /Martha’s Vineyard, and the serene beauty of Hawaii and Florida. All the paintings will be available for purchase, and a percentage of each sale will be donated to the library. The exhibit runs from Jan 2- Feb 28. A reception is tentatively planned for January 24th from 5-7pm, Covid permitting.

Adrienne Mierzwa was born in Manhattan, and studied at the High School of Art and Design, Parsons School of Design, School of Visual Arts and Instituto Allende in Mexico. While she most enjoys painting landscapes, she often paints still life and figures.

She works in a variety of media, including oils, watercolors and drawing media, and has shown in exhibitions throughout the country, winning several awards. She and her husband have lived in the Clove Valley for many years. For more information, visit her website at: adriennemierzwa.com or email adriennemierzwa@icloud.com
