USDA Issues Interim Rules for Hemp Production - How Does it Affect CBD Advertising?

On October 31, the US Department of Agriculture published in the Federal Register interim rules governing the production of industrial hemp under the provisions of the 2018 Farm Act. These rules will allow the USDA to approve state and tribal plans for the regulation of hemp production.

STELAR Renewal Update: Thank You Members
Thanks to our TV members who gave an all-out effort to appeal to Senator Gary Peters asking him to let STELAR expire. Yesterday (11/14), the Senate Commerce Committee was scheduled to mark-up a bill offered by Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) that would reauthorize the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act (STELAR) for five years. NAB reports that due in part to your activism, Senator Wicker, under pressure from other Senators, pulled the bill because of lack of support from his colleagues.

Time Change Bill Back Again
The House passed a bill to stop the biannual time change leaving Michigan on Daylight Savings Time. Representative Michele Hoitenga (R-102) introduced the bill (
H.B. 4303) which now moves to House Ways and Means Committee.

DOL Issues Final Rules on Overtime Pay
On January 1, 2020, the threshold for white-collar workers minimum salary level for exemption from overtime pay will raise from $23,660 to $35,568 annually. It is estimated that 1.3 million additional workers will be eligible for overtime.

Court Rooms to Prohibit Cell Phones
The MAB has filed comments in a proposed rulemaking that would allow each judge to make their own rules on cellphones in their courtrooms.

On November 12, two applications were filed with the FCC for transfer of license. David L. Smith has filed to sell WCHY-FM (Cheboygan) to Michigan Broadcasters, LLC. Michigan Broadcasters is owned by Victoria A. Bishop of Kewadin, Michigan.

WXYZ-TV Teams Up with Art Van for 11th 'Together We Can' Community Food Drive
For the 11th consecutive year, WXYZ-TV (Detroit) and Art Van Furniture are teaming up with Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan to fight hunger in metro Detroit with their annual "Together We Can" food drive. They will be collecting non-perishable food donations from through Saturday, November 30.
