Friends of the Library Booksale - The Friends of the Library will be hosting a used book sale on Friday, November 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. , Saturday, November 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Stop in to browse through the thousands of titles that are for sale.  Whether you are into mystery, biographies, romance or non-fiction; you are sure to find something to fit your taste.  All of the books are at massive discounts.  

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings   - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location: 
  • Disabilities Concern Meeting will take place on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, 36300 Warren Road, please click here for the agenda.

Wayne County Annual Lightfest returns for the Holiday Season -  8k Fun Run/Walk, Bike and Drive through Hines Park.  On Tuesday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. participants will have an opportunity to travel the display on foot.  On Wednesday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. bikers will have an opportunity to cruise through the display on their bikes.  On Thursday, November 21, the Lightfest officially opens with their traditional drive through 5 miles of millions of lights and many giant animated displays. Commodities Distribution at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center - on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at 32150 Dorsey Road.  This is only for Westland residents living north of Michigan Avenue.  This month the food distribution is frozen pork patties, frozen pork chops, mixed fruit, long grain rice, lentils, cranberry juice concentrate, vegetable soup and possible additional items.  The commodities hotline is 734-595-0366.  

Friday Night Movie - The William P. Faust Public Library will host their Friday night movie on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 6123 Central City Parkway, in Meeting Rooms A and B.  This week's movie is Red Joan and is rated R.  Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the movie will start at 6:15 p.m. Snacks/refreshments are provided (donations are accepted and appreciated).  Please visit the library website at www.westland.lib.mi.us for more information. 

Family Movie Matinee - The William P. Faust Public Library will host their Sunday matinee movie on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. The movie this week is Aladdin which is rated PG.  Light refreshments will be served.  Children under  8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Curside Compost is ending on December 13, 2019 for the season - Compost is picked up the same day as regular trash.  Your compost should be separated from your regular trash by 4 feet. Reminder the limit is ten (10) compost bags or five (5) garbage cans, with a weight limit of below 50 pounds.  Just a reminder: compost is garden waste, grass clippings, leaves, hay/straw, pruning debris.  Tree branches need to be cut down to 4 ft. or less and no larger than 3 inches in diameter and put in small bundles and tied with rope or twine.  You may put out 10 bundles per week.

City of Westland Mayor William R. Wild, City of Wayne Mayor John P. Rhaesa, Wayne-Ford Civic League President, Vic Barra, hold the 6th Annual Holiday Meals for Wayne-Westland Veterans and Active Duty Families - recipients will receive a (16-20 lb) turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, sweet potatoes, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce and rolls for a family of 6 - 8 people.
