Congress is coming and Sun Valley is calling your name!
We are excited to be bringing Lynn Lawrence, CPOT, ABOC back to Idaho as our main speaker for Congress 20/20! Lynn shares his time between speaking nationally and as an ophthalmic technician at Milla Eye and Facial Plastic Surgery. Lynn retired from the United States Air Force, where he was appointed Ophthalmic Career Field Manager - overseeing over 540 Optometry/Ophthalmology technicians around the world! Wow!
In picking the classes Lynn offers, we have chosen a wide range for the different areas of the office. Our classes will include: Personally Growing in My Profession, Preventing Burnout, Dealing with Difficult Patients, Pharmacology for Technicians, The Optical Cross, Making the Sale, The Final Front Tear, and Computers and My Health. With all 10 classes, there will be 10 CPC credits, 9 ABO credits, and 3 NCLE credits.
If you’re wondering what those initials all mean, CPC credits are continuing education credits through the AOA for paras who are CPO/CPOA/COPT certified. These certifications are offered to, but not restricted to, paras who are technicians. ABO is a certification offered to, but not restricted to, paras who are opticians and NCLE is offered to paras who work with contact lenses - both are offered through the ABO-NCLE. In some states, certification is required in order to be a paraoptometric. Upon passing these national tests, a predetermined number of continuing education credits are required to maintain the certification.
If you have questions about how to get certified, let us know! We work hard to get certified speakers for those of you out there who have worked hard to get these certifications.
Watch for classes in your area, too! IOPPS reps are working to get classes in your region and in some cases, classes can be certified based upon the topic. If you are looking for a specific class, reach out to Millie Lee, our Trustee Chair, and she can work with your regional rep to hopefully get a class going for you!
Hope to see you in October!
