84 Days to Go...
SBWPC Members,

As of August 11, there are 84 days to go until election day. We’ve heard over and over that this election will be the most important election of our lives. We know what is at stake. So the question must be - what are we going to do to ensure that on November 4th, the day after the election, we have secured victories for our feminist candidates up and down the ballot?

There is a great deal of attention on National elections and on key Senate races in other States. I thank our members that are actively involved in efforts to take back the White House and the Senate. In addition, I ask that you not forget about the important races that are on the ballot here in our own communities.

We are mobilizing our members and supporters to elect feminists at all levels of Government. Make no mistake, there are efforts to elect anti-feminist, anti-choice, conservative candidates across almost every race in our local communities. It is more important than ever that we inform our friends, family, neighbors of the candidates that share our values.

Our members have been hard at work on the important task of endorsement considerations. Over the next several Board Meetings, we will be considering many local races. Please keep your eyes out for those meetings and announcements of the outcomes.

Thank you for your continued support of the Santa Barbara Women’s Political Committee!

Updated SBWPC Position Papers

Almost two years ago, the Board of the Santa Barbara Women's Political Committee began a process to review our position papers and recommend updates. In particular, there was a desire to revise our positions with an anti-racist lens and with gender identity inclusion in mind.

This was an endeavor that required research, discussion and consensus building. Our Position Papers are central to our work. When we consider taking a position on legislation or on a community issue, we look to our position papers. When we consider endorsing a candidate, we look at their track record and commitment to the values in our position papers.

At the July meeting of the Board of Directors, we voted unanimously to adopt our revised position papers. On behalf of the Board, I wish to extend gratitude to the committee of longtime SBWPC members who saw this process through from beginning to end: Max Rorty, Catherine Swysen, Emily Wonder, Madison Cuneo, Pam Tambo, Stacy Little, Leslie Brtek and Carol Keator.

Women Elected Leaders Confront Harassment
You may have seen news articles and video of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responding to the verbal harassment she experienced on the steps of the Capitol by Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.). Her response was powerful and called serious attention to the daily, ongoing harassment women face - no matter their position of authority. If you haven't read her remarks, click here.
We Have Her Back
Feminist leaders pen letter to media leading up to
announcement of VP pick

"As we enter another historic moment, we will be watching you. We expect change. We expect a new way of thinking about your role in how she is treated and the equality she deserves relative to the three men running for President and Vice President. Your great institutions, the ideals you serve, and our country, deserve no less."

It's been 151 Days - Call to Action

Recently, Oprah Magazine dedicated their cover to demanding justice for Breonna Taylor. There are many ways to take action. Breonna Taylor deserves justice.

"Until Freedom, the organization cofounded by renowned activists Tamika D. Mallory, Mysonne Linen, Angelo Pinto, and Linda Sarsour, has the support of Breonna Taylor’s family. The group has recently taken up residence in Louisville to focus their energy on getting justice for Breonna. Their website offers instructions on how 'to take action against injustice' and calls on Louisville and Kentucky officials to demand that the officers involved in Breonna Taylor’s death be charged."
