One week until Thanksgiving Break, but who is counting?

We are entering a great time of year for our school. But there is much to do between now and Thanksgiving. Remember, each day is a new day. Each day is Day One. And, just like the Washington Nationals did to win the World Series, our students, teachers and staff, just need to go 1-0 (undefeated) every day!

Enjoy the fall weather and have a wonderful weekend!

With Phoenix Pride,

Mr. Doug Loftus

Spotlight On Our Veterans (Part II)
Veterans Day was Monday, November 11
Continuing from the last issue, Acceleration East High School remembers our veterans and those on our staff with family that have worn the uniform for their time and many sacrifices. We are very grateful for their service in the U.S. armed forces!

Vanessa Roca, AEHS School Counselor
Branch of service: U.S. Army and U.S. Marines Corps
Relationship: Grandfather, uncles, and cousins all served!
Service: Korean War, Vietnam War, early 80's and two cousins are currently serving in the Army
Responsibilities: Uncles and cousins were in infantry, but I don't know all of their specific jobs. My grandfather was a cook during the Korean War.
Deployment: Two of my cousins fought in the Vietnam War. Another cousin was deployed 3 times to Iraq and might be deployed again soon.
What did your family members enjoy the most about their experience? To my knowledge they enjoyed the camaraderie and traveling the most.

Ms. Roca is pictured above in a fall meeting with students regarding their schedules. As mentioned, her family has served in two branches of the armed forces and has been involved in Korea, Vietnam and Iraq conflicts. We appreciate all that her family has done!

Making sense of the chart: This chart ran in yesterday's Wall Street Journal and shows how prices have risen over recent years in key sectors that affect most Americans. The top black line tracks the growth in the cost of education which leads the other sectors and overall U.S. inflation. This is one reason for our seniors and juniors to take advantage of free scholarship opportunities like this one by the College Board.
