TALLULAH LEADS......

TALLULAH LEADS to Security Federal Bank's
Todd Thompson

Eagle Scout, Athens State graduate, Troy State graduate, and LSU Graduate School of Banking, Jasper Main Street Hero, Kiwanis Superstar, Security Federal Bank President & CEO, dad, and grandad....all of this, and much more, describes Todd Thompson. He arrived in Jasper from Huntsville with his family in 1971 with dad Charles Don Thompson, mom Jo'el, and sister Annalisa. Upon Don's and his family's settling in Jasper, he, along with other board members founded locally owned and operated Security Federal Bank, which will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year and is located at 301 3rd Avenue in Jasper.

You may recognize some of those early names: John H. Bankhead, Jack Moore Brown, R.C. Cain, Carl Elliott, Jr., Son Humphries, Gaines Keith, Perry Matthews, Caine O'Rear, Jr., and Grady Nolan Sparks. Notice Mr. Bankhead (one of my namesake's relatives) and Mr. Brown (Jasper Main Street's President Jenny Brown Short's dad).

While Mike was taking notes for my column, I took it upon myself to roam through the bank in search of treats. Rest assured, I found some.

In Todd's spare time outside of Security Federal Bank and being a community leader, he takes cross-country rides on his motorcycle with friends all while building a house on Blackwater Creek where he can host his family: children Kassie, Justin, Ellesse, and sweet granddaughter Zadi.

I met Todd a couple of years ago when he was the lead project manager on Wade Park which holds Downtown Jasper's gateway sign. Todd's vision was to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club in some meaningful way. He and Mike got together and decided that a partnership with Jasper Main Street and the Kiwanis Club was a great marriage. Lifelong Kiwanis Club member and former Probate Judge Stanley Wade bought the property located on 19th Street as you enter Downtown Jasper from the east. He then donated the property to the club. Todd pooled his resources and contacts and soon Wade Park and the East Gateway Sign were under construction.

Because of Todd's efforts, he was awarded Excellence in Public/Private Partnership at the 2019 Main Street Alabama's Awards held in Decatur where he proudly wore Stanley Wade's original Kiwanis sportscoat.

Guess who made an appearance on the east mural on the Gateway Sign? Thanks, Missy Miles for including me!

Look closely at the mural, and you'll recognize, not just me, but many community members
