November, 2019
We know it’s the time of year when many are organizing end-of-year donations; the ATC Board of Directors asks you to consider including ATC in your charitable giving.

Our annual appeal letter is in the mail.  If you are a current donor, we ask you to contribute again this year so that we may continue to heed our mission: helping Alexandria City Public School students read on or above grade level by the end of kindergarten and first grade. Our Annual Report (link here) highlights our most recent successes: 80 percent of ATC students finished the year reading on or above grade level. And, 100 percent of ATC students made reading progress.

As we plan for the immediate future , we have demand we cannot meet: more schools are asking for ATC’s curriculum.  We want to reach more students, but need your donations to make it happen.

We welcome first-time donors , too, to help us realize our vision – that every child in Alexandria can read and succeed. Please share our good news and ask others to donate to ATC.

Consider donating to ATC in lieu of giving gifts to others.   One of ATC’s long-time tutors shared this was exactly what she did last year. She and her husband made donations to ATC in lieu of gifts to one another. How thoughtful!

You may donate by mailing a check payable to the Alexandria Tutoring Consortium to 323 S. Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 or DONATE NOW !

ATC will be a beneficiary non-profit of the March 28, 2020 Literacy Ball, sponsored by The Arrow Foundation of the Northern Virginia Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. This fundraiser will also benefit Hybla Valley Elementary School and the Ayuda organization. To purchase tickets or learn more about the event, click here .
Several Alexandria congregations support ATC , and we are grateful. One of the three founders of ATC was a pastor at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House; 20-plus years ago he encouraged other congregations to join a consortium supporting this “upstart” program to address literacy needs in Alexandria.

Many of these congregations continue to support ATC today by making donations and/or recruiting tutors: St. Paul's, Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Christ Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Fairlington UMC, Grace Episcopal, Beth El Hebrew Congregation, and of course the Old Presbyterian Meeting House which supplies donations, tutors, and free office space and support to ATC. If your congregation is not on the list, please reach out to Executive Director Lisa Jacobs to explore ways to connect ATC to your faith community.
Our kindergarten programs are launching this week, which means now all ATC programs are up and running. Sixty-six kindergarten students are learning to read, including these three children at William Ramsay. If you are tutoring in either our Kindergarten Book Buddies or Reading Readiness programs, we salute you!
