In this PINKK on POINT series, we are honoring our women songwriters and performing artists that have inspired us over the years and even more recently. This is series #5 - and this is #6 of 12 in this series! We will feature legends and those that are "new legends" in the works that inspire with their talent and kind hearts.

DIANA ROSS
Born in 1944 in Detroit Michigan, Diana Ross was actually named "Diane" by her mother, but a clerical error led to her being called "Diana" on her birth certificate! She joined a female group called "The Primettes" at age 15. The group changed their name in 1961, and Diana rose to fame as the lead singer of The Supremes, the best-charted female group in US history!
She released her solo album in 1970, after her departure from The Supremes, featuring the number 1 pop hit: "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."
She is the only female artist to have number one singles as a solo artist, as the other half of a duet ("Endless Love" with Lionel Richie), as a member of a trio (The Supremes), and as an ensemble member (We are the World-USA for Africa).
In 1988, Diana was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Supremes. She was the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2007, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016. She is also one of the few recording artists to have two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! One as a solo artist and one as a member of The Supremes.
Diana Ross is a force to be reckoned with - not only an incredible performer, but a film star, a musical artist of many genres, a producer, a Presidential Medal Of Freedom winner, but a grand woman and fabulous inspiration to many!
