August 2020
For many people and for many reasons, life is more challenging, overwhelming, and scarier than it has ever been, but they/we are not alone. There are many caring, honest, and sincere people in our local community who are compassionately serving and passionately leading in order to help those who are struggling. Believing, walking, giving, trusting, and talking together is how we will overcome and prosper again -- and always. Thanks to your dedicated and generous support for our programs, projects, and people, UCS is able to be a Community of Caring for everyone.

As of August 10, 2020:
-
We will consider receiving used clothing, towels, sheets, and linens again on August 24, 2020 (but it's not looking good).
- We have further increased our screening, distancing, mask, and cleaning protocols given increasing/recent outbreaks.
- We will maintain enhanced staff coverage during the week for guests’ safety and security, but volunteer support is appreciated.
-
We are seeking to hire additional Care Staff.
-
Things are subject to change, so stay up to date on this and other information HERE.

Over the past several months, your support has been impressive and appreciated. Thank you for your financial gifts, in-kind donations, food deliveries, sack lunches, and volunteerism during this difficult time. You make the days and nights at UCS more dignified, healthier, and safer for men, women, and children who are homeless, hungry, and hurting. That's what our Community of Caring is about.

Clean & Caring Capital Campaign
Day Shelter Restroom Renovation Project
Our day shelter’s restrooms and showers are essential to the community and they are almost 25 years old, in a deteriorating and unsustainable condition costing thousands of dollars to repair every year. The floors and seals leak, equipment is unsafe, damages easily, and inefficient, and the area is difficult to clean and maintain. We know what we need to accomplish to serve our guests better.
|
This campaign funding will combine with other grant and foundation pursuits to pay for this project which we hope to complete early in 2021 -- as part of our 30th anniversary celebration. Will you help us get there?
Any additional campaign funds raised above $40,000 will further improve the durability and quality of the equipment and facility. Thank you for your generosity.
|
|
The estimated total cost of the renovation project is $120,000. We have already raised 28% of that total amount. That is great, but we are not there yet! We need your support. Learn more about the project and share this brochure with others:

Brenda Phelps, Board President
Stephanie Weiner, Board Member
|
|
Rev. Dr. Stephanie Weiner has been a very active volunteer with UCS, now turned committee and board member, for about two years. In her professional life, she was a champion for UCS's mission and started volunteering with her church Bethel UCC serving meals. She has been instrumental in organizing and progressing our Clean & Caring Capital Campaign saying that when she shares information about the campaign, she always states how UCS has the busiest bathrooms in town. She would encourage individuals and groups to volunteer sharing how the opportunities are endless and the impact is a life-changing blessing.
|
|
We currently need volunteers to assist in the day shelter, men's night shelter, and at Ruth's House checking-in guests, serving meals, distributing hygiene items, instructing guests on laundry, as well as, for various cleaning and painting projects.
