ALL in for SFD: Rise by Loving

Thank you to everyone that made this giving rally an amazing success (current total: $66,449!); together we truly showed our Stallion Pride. This is another evident reminder of how much we, as Stallions, continue to care for each other. Thank you for paying it forward, and sharing your love with our entire Stallion family through your generosity. All gifts support the Guardian Angel Fund to provide tuition assistance for our students.

"The measure of love is to love without measure." ~St. Francis de Sales

Stallions in the Spotlight
Congratulations to senior Kevin Heil who was recognized as a May Student of the Month by the Westerville Rotary Club for his commitment to service.
English teacher Ms. Molly Wilson and Campus Ministry Director Ms. Rebecca Metzger recently earned their Master of Arts degrees from Ohio Dominican University. Congrats!
The Business Club sponsored the first ever Shark Tank competition. Participants had to attend 4 virtual workshops throughout the year to hear expert speakers covering different aspects of launching a product. The final pitch was held on May 9th with 6 teams competing. The winners, Isaac and Austin Rush won the $350.00 cash award prize. It's their hope to take their idea and make it a real world application. Special thanks to parent Doug Lessells, Finance Director Mr. Tom Etgen, and parent/Advancement Associate Mr. Phil Kraker for being the judges of this competition, and for being workshop presenters earlier in the year.
The Lil Mac Foundation received a check for $500.00 from the recent Autism Awareness Club's dress down day. Below Mr. and Mrs. Callahan, founders of the Lil Mac Foundation, share their journey on how and why they started this wonderful organization.

My wife, Lisa, and I adopted our first child, Mitchell (Lil Mac) from South Korea in January of 2000. About 18 months later he was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. After Mitchell’s diagnosis, we were thrust into the world of ASD without much support – financially, psychologically, or functionally. After assembling our own ABA therapy staff and finding a private school which specialized in ASD, coordinating other therapies like speech, music, OT, etc. we understood and were struck by the enormous expense to help these young kids grow and have meaningful lives. Sometime around 2003, I served on a statewide committee that focused on ASD issues and funding and our committee was able to pass legislation that required local school districts to move funds to Autism schools so that parents no longer had to bear the financial burden of placing their children into schools that were much better equipped to assist kids on the spectrum. While on that committee, I met a woman from Cleveland who had three children on the spectrum. She and her husband both had good professional jobs yet after sending their kids to special needs schools and funding other necessary therapies out-of-pocket they were forced to sell their home and file for bankruptcy. I shared this story with Lisa and after hearing it, we decided to create a foundation to help families in Ohio with children on the spectrum and their financial challenges in dealing with Autism – Lil Mac Kids was born.

Lil Mac Kids is a not for profit 501(c) 3 organization formed right here in Columbus. We have one other “chapter” located in Minneapolis, MN that is managed by our nephew just because he believes in our mission. We raise money each year through donations, donation matching, and fund raising events like golf outings and other social gatherings. We have no overhead and 100% of our funds go directly to families throughout the state of Ohio who suffer financial hardship due to caring for these amazing kids. Our gifts and grants are given in the form of checks, devices like iPads or computers, and even a down payment for a car. Over the years the foundation has given out over $100,000 to families across Ohio. Mitchell is now 21 and will need care for the rest of his life and we continue to help families in his honor and name.
After Prom Gift Card Donations

This Saturday, Prom and After Prom will be held for seniors at SFD. The Mothers Club has worked to supply raffle prizes for students for After Prom activities. We would like to add various gift cards to the list of prizes and could use donations. If you are interested and willing to donate, please purchase a gift card for any denomination at stores/restaurants that would be sought out by high school students and send your donation to the school office this week, care of Antonella Iacobone or Laura Fowler. Thanks to all for your continuing support.
Senior Scholarships: Deadline This Friday

Attention Senior Parents~
We are working hard to ensure we have a complete listing of all the scholarships your student has been offered, whether they attend that college/university or not. We list each scholarship name under your student's name in the Graduation Program.

If your student has not brought in their scholarship letters to the Guidance office, please have them do so. The deadline for these letters is Friday, May 14. If the original letter is brought in, we will be happy to make a copy.

Thank you in advance for making this Graduation keepsake a special one for your student.

Spiritual Reflection
Lord, your words today call to our minds the memory of our grief over loved ones who have—in one way or another—passed from our lives. Yet along with this memory comes strength and hope, for their passing has indeed made us different people, stronger people, who rely more on you. May your Spirit continue to work in us to transform weakness into strength. Amen.
