Non-English-speaking communities are increasingly concerned that coronavirus information is being communicated to them after the rest of the country and in less detail, creating a divide that could put minority groups at greater risk of contracting the virus.

The White House and the CDC on Monday produced a set of coronavirus guidelines asking Americans to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people and to stay in their homes as much as possible for at least 15 days. It wasn't until Tuesday -- after Bold PAC, the fundraising arm of the CHC, took it upon itself to translate the materials -- that the White House released a Spanish-language version of those guidelines.

Congress is preparing legislation to provide relief to working Americans who have experienced economic loss due to COVID-19.

At the same time, language companies face a significant loss of income as well, and nearly all have reported economic hardship because of this pandemic.

During this challenging time, ASAE is doing everything it can to help its members and association professionals nationwide continue their critical missions and navigate the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as safely as possible.

To that end, ASAE has sent an urgent appeal to Congressional leaders t o again advocate significant, emergency financial support to the association and nonprofit communities. ASAE specifically requests $25 billion in capital assistance for our sector, as many organizations and their missions are in jeopardy.  ASAE also proposes a risk insurance program to mandate that businesses who demonstrate significant business interruption and sharp decline in present and future revenue would be insured in case of a possible pandemic or epidemic.

Dual language and immersion (DLI) students tend to develop high levels of comprehension and communicative abilities in the target language. However, they also achieve lower-than-expected production skills, particularly in terms of grammatical accuracy, lexical (vocabulary) variety, and contextually-appropriate language use. In this interactive, three-hour workshop, we will explore why DLI students develop this “immersionese” and discuss specific instructional strategies that secondary DLI teachers can use to enhance the quantity and quality of their students’ language production.
