Celebrate Jesus!
The Christmas season has come quickly and just like in the U.S., we are preparing for celebrations and generosity while working to keep the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus our Savior, at the forefront of it all. We are planning large gatherings, one for the community of children with a team from our partners at One More Child for up to 2000 community children, as well as one primarily for our sponsored and wait listed children to celebrate Jesus and receive their gifts from their sponsors and other generous friends who have pitched in to make this a meaningful time for all.  They will take home meat and other food staples for their whole family as well as a new outfit, other basic necessities and a small personal gift. Thanks to all who sent
to make this possible for them. We are still a bit short on funds for this. So, if you have an extra $35 this month it will go a long way to make Christmas special for a child.

Christmas at the Children’s Home is always special. See some highlights from last year’s preparations below.
Katherine, Pastor Charles & Judith, Bumba, Rebekah and Eunice had a wonderful time “doing” AWANA with the AWANA club at Grace Covenant church in Lakewood, CO while they were the U.S. in October. Rebekah and Eunice had a particularly good time being with other kids and doing familiar AWANA activities after so much traveling with the adults. They got to be kids for an evening.  This group of children raised more than $4,000 for our Christmas celebration and giving needs, many doing chores at home to make the money. We are so thankful to all of them for their support and for their choosing to let God use them.

The 20 Year Anniversary celebration has so encouraged us to see how God has been working through Hines Ugandan Ministries for so long and we are thankful for his work even this year. We began the year learning the results of the national exams that our first graduating class at Genesis Primary School took at the end of 2018 and were thrilled to have all 12 students score in the top level for the whole country. We pray that this year’s graduates will do as well and are excited to get their results in the new year. We had many teams that blessed us with teaching, loving and giving throughout the year and interns that shared in the lives of the children and families we serve. We saw more young people that have been in our sponsorship program for many years graduate and become contributing citizens and Godly leaders in their country. Some of our earlier graduates have started their own families and it is a joy to tangibly see how God has used all of us and you to completely change lives, not just for the sponsored kids, but for their future families.

Thank you to all of you for being a part of bringing joy and Jesus to the community of Kamokoli. It’s been a year of blessings and you are a blessing to us as you pray and give generously. We ask that you consider us in your year end giving and want to let you know some of our needs. Our greatest need is always in Ministry Funds which covers the bulk of our non-sponsorship expenses like supporting our many teachers, social workers, clinic staff and more as we now have over 70 field staff members. It also keeps the lights on, assuming the power company cooperates, helps us maintain our building and vehicles and support the needs of our different programs like sponsorship and Genesis School. This carries over to help children who are between sponsors or have special needs that basic sponsorship cannot cover.

We have had a particularly difficult year with power outages and have gone for more than a month without power on our main property. Though we have a wonderful generator on the home side of the property, it does not reach the school and clinic. Both need this for lighting, refrigeration and to use equipment. We have had two churches give 10% each toward a generator that we estimate to cost $12,000. Further gifts toward this are very much needed.

We continue to desire to purchase school books for our children at Genesis to help our teachers educate them more efficiently as most schools in Uganda work without them. Though we have some, we really need to be fully supplied to offer the best education possible for our students. It costs us approximately $300 per subject for each grade. Consider funding a subject for one grade this Christmas.
