Description:

We will begin with an overview of the LGBTQ community from a historical perspective and provide up-to-date facts and definitions. Further, salient information regarding attitudes, misconceptions as well as circumstances in our society that impact the socio-emotional needs of individuals who are LGBTQ will be discussed. Critical information and the latest best practices that clinicians need to know in order to provide individualized, sensitive, and compassionate care will be included.

Objectives:

• Describe the impact of misconceptions and the lack of cultural competence about individuals who are LGBTQ in our society
•  Identify the various terminologies and definitions to describe the LGBTQ community
• State strategies for mental health professions to effectively work with the LGBTQ community and their families and employers.

This training is required by mental health professionals in Washington, DC.

For social workers, CBPS is recognized by the Washington. DC Board of Social Work Examiners for CE hours.

Kathleen Talent, PhD

Cancellation Policy:

Written notification of cancellation must be received in our office at least 10 business days prior to a training for a refund. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund. There will be no refund for cancellation notification less than 10 business days.

CBPS reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. In the event of such cancellation, you will receive a full refund.
