Highlighted New Teacher (September): Welcome Mr. House
Originally from Berkeley, California, Mr. K.G. (Kendrick) House is a graduate of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto (OISE/UT). While earning his bachelor’s degree at OISE/UT, Mr. House specialized in Intermediate Senior English, History and Special Education while serving as a member of the school’s Alternate III program, the focus of which was on contemporary approaches to education with an emphasis on school-based, communal, and global learning perspectives. Upon graduation, Mr. House was the honored recipient of the school’s coveted R.J. McMaster Award, named in honor of a longtime Faculty of Education professor, and bestowed annually to the outstanding graduate of its English program. This is Mr. House’s first year at the Academy of Math and Science–Desert Sky, having spent the past six years teaching Grade 12 English while serving as the Head of Faculty for the English department at Al Hosn Boys’ High School in Al Shamkha, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. During his tenure in the United Arab Emirates, Mr. House earned a certificate for facilitating learning from the Emirates College for Advanced Education and was honored to have this awarded to him by His Excellency Hussain Ibrahim Al Hammadi, the Minister of Education for the United Arab Emirates.
