Greetings,

Our classrooms have always been places where students learn and improve their language skills. Particularly at the beginning of a new semester, the classrooms transcend academics and become more of a dynamic channel where learners bond and make new friends with each other.  At the same time, LCNV has also been meeting new friends and strengthening ties with our partners.
Friendship brings new possibilities and paves the way towards a future we can create together. With friends and partners in the community, we are able to engage more learners and expand our impact to promote literacy throughout the region.

Best,

Roopal Mehta Saran, Executive Director
Sharing our Impact: LCNV at VRLTA Panel Discussion
Given our work preparing learners to enter the hospitality community and collaborating with employers in the industry,  we were honored to be a part of the panel discussion held by the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association (VRLTA) Arlington-Alexandria Chapter. During the panel, Roopal Saran, our Executive Director, shared the positive impact we have made with employees of  DoubleTree by Hilton McLean Tysons and  ThinkFoodGroup; as well as gave an overview of the classes we provide to the community. See VRLTA's social media for more information.

One of the Four: Partnership with Acumen Solutions Global Pro Bono Initiative
LCNV was selected as one of four organizations in Northern VA for the Acumen Solutions Global Pro Bono Initiative.  We had a team of 9 Acumen Solutions employees who worked closely with us on three Salesforce projects: 1) creating an online profile for registration; 2) satisfaction surveys for teachers and students; and 3) helping us to simplify our reporting process. The Pro Bono Project Closing Celebration was held on September 13th, and we had a chance to share what the impact of the projects has been for us. Our Board member and Acumen Solutions employee Tom Gilbride attended and spoke about what it means to be on our Board.

Literacy around the Globe: Agus's interview
Earlier this September, we met Agus, an Indonesian literacy activist in our office. He started an organization with his friends that fills backpacks with books and rides by motorcycle to distribute them to youth living in rural areas.  When asked what motivates  him to carry out those activities, Agus says,  "It is something that we have to do for our community. We care about our people, and we know it's something we need to do for making them love reading."

Congratulations, Summer Intensive Class!
