DISTANCE LEARNING THROUGH MAY 1, 2020

Dear River Montessori Families,
We are writing to let you know that Sonoma County Office of Education has advised that county schools will continue distance learning through May 1, 2020,
with an expected mid-April follow-up as to whether things will be extended beyond that point
. While this may or may not be the news we wanted to hear, it was a big question on our minds, and now at least we can move forward with a little more certainty.
I know that this may be unsettling, disappointing, and perhaps even scary for many families. As a school, we offer our strategies and tricks that we've gathered over the years as educators, parents, and coaches. As a community of diverse families, we share an abundance of experience, insight, and resources that we can offer each other. Some of us are great listeners, a few are deft time managers, many have older or grown children and savvy parenting tricks or work-at-home-with-a-toddler skills, and there are those funny-folks with a knack for levity in the face of adversity; all these talents can benefit others! This is the Montessori way, right?...the veterans of the group guide and nurture those who follow and are learning what the "elders" have already mastered. We don't all have to be experts or perfect- we simply just listen, reassure when it is needed, and help others to find their own individual success.
So, please...

Meals can be picked up at Miwok Elementary Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9am-11am
Child Care
We know that our River Family's essential workers are hard pressed right now with taking care of the greater community and their own families. We understand from SCOE that the
Community Child Care Council of Sonoma County (4Cs)
is working care options. We will keep you posted on possibilities as we discover them.
Learning
Behind the scenes, your faculty and staff continue to develop a learning-at-home model for the children and we look forward to relaying details to you next week. We understand from others (four insightful national group meetings this week with those who have gone before us!) that roll out, onboarding, and ensuring equitable access realistically requires at least two weeks. To help with this, please be sure to complete the Student & Family Needs Survey about technology that we've distributed so we can ensure equity and access for all the students of River.
And, for now, here's to your good health and the continued health of all those in our lives, community, and world, especially the vulnerable. While it is easy to be consumed by our own experience, this is a wonderful example for our children of how we must help each other. Let's keep ourselves and everyone safe by following the guidelines of public health and finding positive and constructive ways to navigate this peacefully.

Como una comunidad de familias diversas, compartimos una gran cantidad de experiencias, conocimientos y recursos que podemos ofrecernos mutuamente.
