Blue Christmas~
an Online Worship Service of Comfort and Hope
A Blue Christmas Service is a time to acknowledge the feelings that surrounds Christmas for some of us, a time to remember the reason for those feelings, and a time to offer those feelings to God. This service traditionally offers a haven for people who desire a special touch from God during the holidays, and promises to be a time of quiet reflection, candle lighting, readings, music, and prayer. In this most challenging of years, we invite you to join us through a special online service of comfort and rest.
A link to view this service will be available in mid December. More information to come next week.
Blue Christmas Service is hosted by CUMC’s Stephen Ministers.

Youth and Kids News...
Sunday School always welcomes new friends to join our active groups. Zoom log-in info for the following online classes will be emailed at the end of each week. If you would like to be added to the distribution group or have questions about which class is right for your children, please email Karen at youthchatumc@optonline.net.
Families - This week is the Second Sunday of Advent. With your family, light the second candle of your Advent wreath. If you’ve been keeping up with the daily devotions you’ll know we’re up to page 10 in the Wonders of His Love family devotion booklet. Ask your family, “Are we preparing? Or are we planning?” What is the difference between the two? (Families with only high school youth, use the Incarnation devotion booklet emailed last week.)

PreK / Early Elementary Sundays at 9:30am on Zoom. This week in class we’ll share the Advent wreaths we made last week. Our theme: Emmanuel – An Angel Visits Joseph and we’ll read the story of an angel telling Joseph what to name the baby Jesus. Emmanuel is one of the names and means “God is with us.” In this time of COVID we all know the importance of an in person presence which may give us a new understanding of the idea that God decided to become human that first Christmas to be with us. What an amazing aspect of the Christian faith. It’s also pretty cool that God knows what it’s like to be a little kid, because Jesus was a kid once!

Submerge (4th-8th grade) - Sundays at 10:30am on ZoomThis week in class we’ll share the Advent wreaths we made last week. Then we’ll take a deeper dive into the opening scenes of the Christmas story – specifically the “Annunciation” - a story in which two worlds collide, not to mention the big plot twist that many never saw coming. Have your Bible handy.

High School Discussion: Sundays at 11:45am on Zoom. For the remaining weeks of Advent we will work through the youth version of Adam Hamilton’s book “Incarnation – Rediscovering the Significance of Christmas” and examine the question “Who is Jesus?” Messiah, Lord, Emmanuel, Prince of Peace, King of Kings, Savior... What do these names tell us about who Jesus is and how can this make a difference to our understanding of Christmas 2020?

ALL YOUTH (JYF and SYF) – save the date, Sunday Dec. 13 for a Christmas mission activity. Times are still being finalized but will be mid-late afternoon. Watch your email for updates as plans develop. Drivers will be needed!
