Christmas on the Square Thursday, Dec. 5   
Garland's 2019 tree lighting ceremony will be featured at Christmas on the Square Thursday, Dec. 5!
 
Join school carolers for hot chocolate and the lighting of the official Christmas tree from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Come early and carpool!
 
The fun doesn't end there! From Dec. 5 through 31, Christmas on the Square will be open nightly, with more than 100,000 lights to bring the holiday season to life. Whether you're walking or driving through, it's sure to bring out your holiday spirit throughout the entire season.
 
There will be a sensory-friendly tree lighting ceremony from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Neighborhood Leader Meet & Greet Thursday, Dec. 5
Swing by Rosalind Coffee TX during Christmas on the Square for the Neighborhood Leader Meet & Greet! 

This come-and-go event from 6 to 7 p.m. is a time for neighborhood leaders to celebrate the accomplishments of the year and enjoy a cup of cocoa on us! 



Free Holiday Movies at the Plaza Theatre
Ring in the holidays with free movies at the Plaza Theatre, 521 W. State St.
 
Enjoy a screening of the holiday classic White Christmas at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6.

Come back at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, for the magical tale of The Polar Express, and catch a showing of Christmas in Connecticut that evening at 7 p.m.

Wrap up the weekend with the funny film  Elf  at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8

Breakfast with Santa Saturday, Dec. 7
Enjoy a breakfast buffet with Santa from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Branding Iron Restaurant at Firewheel Golf Park, 1535 E. Brand Road. 

Enjoy crafts for the kids and photos with Santa! Breakfast buffet is $13.95 for adults and $7.95 for kids.

Puppy Paws and Santa Claws Sunday, Dec. 8
Join us from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, for an afternoon of fun with our furry friends at Holford Recreation Center, 2314 Homestead Place

Enjoy making "pawliday" crafts, games, vendors and pictures with Santa.

Cost is $8 per dog. Save $3 when you preregister by Dec. 5. You must register one adult per dog.

Garland Fire Department Toy Drive
The Garland Fire Fighters Association and Garland Fire Department are collecting new, unwrapped toys for their annual toy drive.
 
Toys will be collected at all 11 Garland fire stations and at the Fire Administration and Training Facility, 1500 State Highway 66, through Dec. 16. 
 
Garland firefighters will deliver the toys to local children for the holidays. For more information, contact Jerry Click at

Dallas County Elections Public Hearing
Dec. 3
Dallas County will hold a public hearing at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, to receive comments and statements from the public regarding the use of Countywide Vote Centers used in the Nov. 5 General/Special and Joint Election.  The hearing will take place at the Dallas County Administration Building, Allen Clemson Courtroom, 411 Elm St. in Dallas.  Public comments will be recorded and made a part of Dallas County's request to permanently establish Countywide Vote Centers for Election Day voting in Dallas County.  Dallas County residents can obtain more information about Vote Centers and provide their feedback online as well.

Federal Disaster Loans for Storm-Affected Residents
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is offering low-interest federal disaster loans to Texas businesses and residents affected by the storms that occurred Oct. 20-21. Representatives are available at the Dallas County Disaster Loan Outreach Center, located at the Bachman Lake Branch Library, 9480 Webb Chapel Road in Dallas. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The deadline to apply for property damage is Jan. 13, 2020. The deadline to apply for economic injury is Aug. 14, 2020. Snacks with Santa Tuesday, Dec. 10
Join Santa for an evening of holiday fun! Snacks with Santa will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Fields Recreation Center, 1701 Dairy Road. Enjoy making crafts, playing games and having a snack with Santa and his helpers. For more information, call 972-205-3090.
