Penn State to study integration of automated driving systems into work zones

The Thomas D. Larson Pennsylvania Transportation Institute will lead a group of Penn State researchers studying how to safely integrate automated driving systems into work zones. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, universities and public sector organizations received the $8.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to study connectivity, visibility and high-definition mapping technologies in relation to automated vehicles.   >>
Scientists have first 3D view of life's processes in liquid

A new liquid-cell technology allows scientists to see living biological materials and systems in three dimensions under an electron microscope, according to researchers at Penn State, Virginia Tech and Protochips Inc.   >>
NSF grant provides next step for assistive walking exoskeletons

To understand, model and optimize the comfort of lower limb robotic exoskeletons, researchers in the Penn State Department of Mechanical Engineering have been awarded a $700,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.   >>
Researchers explore using computer simulations to improve experiments

Penn State chemical engineering researchers recently received a four-year, $1.75 million grant from the National Science Foundation to explore the integration of computer simulations with experiments to quicken the development of new flexible electronics.   >>
AI could offer warnings about serious side effects of drug-drug interactions

The more medications a patient takes, the greater the likelihood that interactions between those drugs could trigger negative side effects, including long-term organ damage and even death. Now, researchers at Penn State have developed a machine learning system that may be able to warn doctors and patients about possible negative side effects that might occur when drugs are mixed.   >>
Dynamic haptic robotic training to decrease catheter procedure complications

Through a five-year, $2,233,411 grant recently awarded by the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, two Penn State engineering faculty members will lead a team of engineers, medical professionals and graduate students to build upon their  previous dynamic haptic central venous catheter work supported by the NIH .   >>
