"The Son of Man will send his angels..."
"The Son of Man will send his angels..."

People generally have a fascination with angels... those wonderful beings that our Good God brought to life to help watch over all His children, that's you and me.

However, in our fascination with angels, we can sometimes confuse their place in all of God's creations. Here's what I mean by this: in romanticizing about angels, we have a tendency to write or say how wonderful it would be to be an angel, or that a loved one who has passed away has now gone and become an angel watching over us.

All of that is very beautiful, as it shows us that we truly believe that there is something beyond what we can see and know in this world, something beyond our imaginations, something transcendental. In thoughts like that, we acknowledge that we have a soul and that the spiritual life is very much real. The notion to be like an angel to watch over loved ones shows our innate desire to intercede for those who need our help.

However, therein lies the confusion. As angelic beings seem to be out of our reach (as they are spiritual beings), we start to think that we are less than they. However, we need to remember our own humble beginnings, that all of mankind was made in the image and likeness of God Himself (cf: Genesis 1.27).

Okay... what does that mean? That we are called to be " like " God (but not be God Himself)! Whereas the angelic beings were created to love and serve God and in turn, all His children. The angels were created for our sake, so that they could serve us through their intercessions on behalf of our Father. Just as we have parents or guardians placed over us, so in the same way, God gives His angels to us to be our guardians.

God's angelic army is just a prayer away, go to them and seek their intercession for yourself, your family, and on behalf of the whole world! And may we in turn, strive to be more like-God, exuding holiness and love to those around us!
