Mass for the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
There are still a few reservations available for the October 10th, in-person Mass. The sign-up will remain open until Thursday at noon. Mass will be live streamed on our Facebook page
at 5pm on Saturday, October 10th

A recorded version will be available on Sunday,
or you can watch the Facebook version, it just won't be truly live. :)

On October 4, over 20 masked parishioners brought their pets to be blessed by Father Crispin on the Feast Day of Saint Francis. The event began with a reading and general blessing followed by individual blessings for each of the pets and their owners. And every dog or cat that was blessed got to leave with a special Saint Francis medal commemorating their blessing.

as our community service project to help animals
and give back to help animals in need.
Our troop loves animals!
Some of us even adopted our pets from Seattle Humane!

October 17 & 18 we will celebrate World Mission Sunday. Pope Francis invites the entire Church to support mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the world's most vulnerable communities. Please keep the Pope's missions in your prayers and be generous in next week's collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

Father wants anyone who needs to spend time in the church in Private Prayer to have that opportunity. Having the church open only during certain hours on Tuesdays does not seem to be meeting that need. We are going to take a break from that schedule and instead offer that if you would like to spend some time in the church, come by the Parish office and we will let you in on an individual basis. St John Book Club
For our next meeting we will be reading Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh.
The most nostalgic and reflective of Evelyn Waugh's novels, Brideshead Revisited looks back to the golden age before the Second World War. It tells the story of Charles Ryder's infatuation with the Marchmains and the rapidly-disappearing world of privilege they inhabit. Enchanted first by Sebastian at Oxford, then by his doomed Catholic family, in particular his remote sister, Julia, Charles comes finally to recognize only his spiritual and social distance from them. Fratelli Tutti
On Sunday, October 4th, the feast day of Saint Francis of Assissi, Pope Francis released a brand new encyclical, Fratelli Tutti, which means in English "we are all brothers and sisters." Pope Francis' third encyclical begins: "FRATELLI TUTTI". With these words, Saint Francis of Assisi addressed his brothers and sisters and proposed to them a way of life marked by the flavour of the Gospel. Of the counsels Francis offered, I would like to select the one in which he calls for a love that transcends the barriers of geography and distance, and declares blessed all those who love their brother "as much when he is far away from him as when he is with him". In his simple and direct way, Saint Francis expressed the essence of a fraternal openness that allows us to acknowledge, appreciate and love each person, regardless of physical proximity, regardless of where he or she was born or lives. This year we are joining with the school in studying the Beatitudes.
Walk humbly with God...How does this theme look in our families, school, and community? We can walk humbly with God through the beatitudes! In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught His disciples (and us) about how to be perfectly happy (Heaven with God). In other words, He taught us how, in our earthly lives, we can live out the purpose for which God made us. Jesus taught us 8 ways of living called Beatitudes, so that we can begin to be perfectly happy with God in Heaven. Each month we will focus on one beatitude and how everyday saints, like you and me, can live out this beatitude.
Beatitude of the month
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
The poor include both literally poor people, in need of basic necessities, and figuratively poor people, who are aware of their spiritual poverty, people who acknowledge their need and utter dependence upon God.
The reward mentioned here is nothing less than the kingdom of heaven. What do we consider to be our family's greatest riches?
Flowers can help us to "see" the beatitudes in a different way.
The Columbine can remind us to be humble because it looks like it is bowing its head to pray. When we bow our heads and pray to God we humble ourselves before him. We are poor in spirit when we acknowledge that we are sinners who need God, and that everything we have comes from him.
