Dear STEM Families,

We hope that you all are well! We are about to start our second week of online learning and we couldn't be more proud of our students, families, and staff for they way you have all handled the transition. It is clear that we are ahead of the curve and well-prepared for this type of scenario, given our experience with Plan E Days. In times of uncertainty, we're glad that we could provide a sense of routine for your family and continue your child's education.

Given the current protection measures that are in place in the state and country, we need to begin making some tough decisions related to planned events and educational experiences for the remainder of the year. We will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Senior Activities
  • PROM on April 25th - Cancelled
  • SENIOR AWARDS NIGHT on May 7 – Not cancelled yet, but unlikely. If cancelled, awards will be announced and given at a later date
  • GRADUATION on May 16 – Not cancelled yet, but will likely need to be moved to a later date. No date has been set yet.
  • VOLUNTEER HOURS – Seniors are not required to complete any additional hours to meet graduation requirements.

Junior Activities
  • PROM on April 25th - Cancelled
  • INTERNSHIP – We will be monitoring the situation closely to determine the feasibility of students completing an internship experience this spring and summer. More information will be provided as this current situation continues to develop.

Freshman & Sophomore Activities
  • JOB SHADOW - Cancelled. Students will receive an email template this week to help them inform their mentors of this change.

STEMmersion
We are unsure at this time how long the face-to-face school closure will continue, so the annual STEMmersion experience is in flux at this time. We are particularly aware of the STEMmersion experiences that involve travel (in-state, out-of-state, and international). Please know that we are watching the situation closely and will let you know as soon as we can if the trips will need to be cancelled. If this occurs, the availability and process for full or partial refunds (if payment has already been made) will be communicated by your child’s STEMmersion teacher.

Counselors' Corner
Mr. Federinko, Ms. Wilson, and Ms. Kramer will have online "office hours" from 12:00pm-2:00pm on school days. They will be available to answer questions, give support, and share resources via email during that time. In case of emergency, students are encouraged to use  " Stay Safe, Speak Up "  to report any concerns to school staff.

Attendance
Please email the school at attendance@daytonstemschool.org if your child will be unable to complete online assignments on any given day.

Please remember to reach out to a teacher, staff member or administrator via email if you have any questions or concerns. Even though the school is closed, we are all actively monitoring our email to offer support to our STEM family.

Be safe and well,

Robin Fisher
