Hickory, NC - August 4, 2020 - Utility Solutions, Inc. (USI) launched their 3-phase distribution simulator 2-years ago this month and just released a software upgrade. The Load-Trainer™ II Transformer Simulator can now simulate more system voltages, transformer configurations, and includes more troubleshooting modes.
The unique tactile interface of the Load-Trainer™ offers an immersive learning environment for all levels of line-workers and utility personnel. "We added 3 more secondary voltages", says Jon Spencer, an Engineer for USI who was part of the team that developed the Load-Trainer™. "We now have 6 voltage options that represent a wide range of distribution systems in North and South America."
In addition to the secondary voltage enhancements, USI also reports that a single bushing primary option has been added. Transformers come in all shapes and sizes and can include 1 or 2 primary bushings. "These upgrades are in response to our customers telling us what they want", says Roger May, Sales Director for USI. "Many utilities use a single bushing primary on their systems." With this new option, a trainer can set the H2 primary bushing to be internally connected to the tank ground just like a real transformer.
The Load-Trainer™ can be used to both teach and evaluate. New troubleshooting options allow a trainer to hide key pieces of information. This requires a user to demonstrate their proficiency without having the answers displayed on the touch screen. USI reports that several utilities and contractors use the Load-Trainer™ as part of their hiring process to evaluate lineman candidates.
New domestic units will automatically include the upgrade, while existing customers may purchase an optional software upgrade. These upgrades were followed by a new Spanish Language version that launched this summer.
