Construction of Woodchase Park Begins

Construction crews have cleared the land site of Woodchase Park, located at Woodchase Drive and Westpark Tollway.

The early beginnings of a 1.7 acre park are taking shape at the end of Woodchase Drive. Contractor D.L. Meacham has begun work on the property by clearing limbs and trees on the site of Woodchase Park. Once the park is finished, it will be mostly grass, with the addition of 40 mature trees, plus 4,316 square feet of shrubs, 4,243 square feet of ornamental plants and 4,316 square feet of plants to create a rain garden. Ten fully mature crape myrtles are already on the site and the District will be relocating 18 live oaks from Westheimer to the park site. Stay tuned for more. H-GAC Announces Small Business Relief Loan Program
Many businesses continue to be impacted by COVID-19. The Houston-Galveston Area Local Development Corporation (H-GAC) is here to help small businesses across the 13-county Gulf Coast region of Texas. The Economic Development Administration awarded H-GAC funds to help during and after the pandemic. Up to $50,000 loans are available for projects located in Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Walker, Waller, and Wharton Counties. It's Time to Shred Because It's Been That Kind of Year
Although 2020 was out of control, you can control clutter. Unneeded documents pile up over time, taking up closet, desk, shelf and cabinet space. While it's a good practice to reduce document clutter, shredding sensitive documents is also an efficient way to keep yourself secure against identity theft.
Get started at West Houston Assistance Ministries' Shred Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19. You can drive up to WHAM's parking lot at 3100 Rogerdale and drop off boxes filled with paper that needs to be shredded.
For a minimum suggested donation of $10, your documents will be shredded securely onsite by a shredding company. WHAM is limiting the service to 10 file size boxes of paper documents per person, for the minimum donation.
"Typical shredding services can cost as much as $45 per pound," said Mercedes Santos-Garay, development and communications director of WHAM. "By coming to Shred Day and providing a minimal donation, you are helping raise proceeds to benefit our programs to help families in need and securely disposing of personal or company documents."

Westchase District is fortunate to be surrounded by many good neighbors - both individuals and companies - who are making a positive impact in the community. That was evident in 2020, as many people and organizations were willing to go above and beyond when it was needed more than ever.
The District needs your help to recognize people who have made a difference in our community. Now is your chance to nominate a person for a Community Impact Award. A judging panel will select finalists and award winners will be recognized at a 2021 (date TBD) meeting of the Westchase District Advisory Board.
