Pandemic Resurgence Advisory Committee Report

The interim report prepared by the Pandemic Resurgence Advisory Committee ("PRAC") is now available for public comment. The report, compiled by the PRAC health, equity, and business subcommittees, is designed to plan for a potentially dangerous resurgence of COVID-19 this fall.  MSD Past President Nancy Fan, MD chairs the health subcommittee, and MSD President Joseph Straight, MD is a committee member. Governor Carney Releases Back to School Guidance
Schools to Reopen Under "Hybrid" Model
Delaware Governor John Carney has announced public schools in the First State will be allowed to open for the new academic year under a hybrid model, combining a mix of classroom instruction with online teaching. In a press conference attended by Delaware Secretary of Education, Dr. Susan Bunting; Dr. Rick Hong, Medical Director for the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH); and Delaware Division of Public Health Chief Physician, Dr. Rick Pescatore, the group outlined the guidelines for a green/yellow/red framework to reopen schools safely in Delaware. Read more
DPH Announces Latest COVID-19 Statistics
15,445 Total Confirmed Cases - 588 Total Deaths in Delaware
According to the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH), Delaware has a total of 588 fatalities due to COVID-19. Individuals who have died ranged in age from 21 to 104 years old.

Beginning last week, those tested through Delaware's community saliva-based testing events, are now able to receive results via text as well as email when an email address is provided.  This enhanced service is reducing the time for those who do not provide an email address to receive their test results. 

The latest Delaware COVID-19 statistics include:
  • 15,445 total laboratory-confirmed cases
  • New Castle County cases: 7,130
  • Kent County cases: 2,268
  • Sussex County cases: 5,803
  • Unknown: 244
  • Age range: 0 to 104
  • Hospitalized: 37; Critically ill: 15
Additional demographic data on COVID-19 cases and deaths, including race/ethnicity, more age-specific data and rates information by ZIP code, can be found on the Division of Public Health's My Healthy Community data portal. 

CMS 2021 Physician Payment Schedule Draft
Significant Changes Announced
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the proposed 2021 Medicare physician payment schedule. The proposed rule will expand the list of telehealth services covered by Medicare and will implement significant increases to the payment for office visits, but will be offset by payment reductions to other services, including significant reimbursement cuts for surgeons. The American Medical Association (AMA) continues to analyze the 1,300+ page proposal, and has prepared a topline summary of key issues. Read more
