PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT - DISCOVERY
Each week, we will be highlighting one of our programs or offering resources for the Radcliffe community to illustrate The Radcliffe Way!

Discovery is Radcliffe Creek's unique approach to actively learning science and social studies. For nine-week blocks, students are immersed in a subject - so not only do they learn how electricity works, but also the history of it. Classrooms are transformed from a blank slate to a masterpiece of the unit being studied (one classroom comes alive as a tropical rain forest  while another is constructed into a Civil War battlefield). Students use multiple senses to create and learn.

Younger students build models on the classroom floor and role play characters throughout history while older students use technology to demonstrate their understanding of science and historical events, while incorporating textbook assignments and assessments into their daily routine as they prepare, again, for academics outside of Radcliffe Creek.

Ms. Usilton's 7th and 8th grade Discovery students just returned from a trip where they  immersed themselves in Civil W ar history for the three days by camping at Antietam National Battlefield. Students have been learning about Civil War history in Discovery Class and loved this opportunity to step foot right on the battlefield and see where and how the armies moved.

Ms. Connor and Mr. Littlefield's classes participated in a Black Death simulation game while learning about the Middle Ages. Students had fun while learning how quickly the plague spread through numerous towns.

Mrs. Kirby's students are participating in a variety of experiments in their Magnets unit. After learning key words, students had the opportunity to test a variety of objects to decide if it is "Magnetic of Not!"

AROUND THE CREEK

In OT, Aidan works on fine motor skills and strength by building a horse with resistive putty and Popsicle sticks.

Students in Ms. Serio's math class are playing addition war. Once they found the sum, they used their alligator mouths to figure out  which sum was greater than or less than.

Holden is very focused while working on coloring his pumpkin!

Students in Little Creek and the K-1 class enjoyed a visit from the Chestertown Fire Department !

In OT, Oliver plays a fall theme memory match game on the scooter board working on core strength, hand strength, and visual skills.

Students have been studying the works of Edgar Allan Poe in Literature classes, and had an amazing opportunity to go to the Garfield Center to watch performances of several of Poe's poems and stories.
