MY HOCKEY GOLD MEDAL GAMES TOURNAMENT

Provo Predators 10U D1 Team

A busy tournament weekend it has been for our 10U D1 team at the Peaks. This young team is always eager to get on the ice, work as a team, and play their best.

Christian Pack: “I have enjoyed playing with my teammates but it’s been a tough tournament”.

Emery Romrell: "I really like the tournament; it is fun. We get to play a lot of games, and sometimes play teams we don't play very much."

Grant Harker: "I think the tournament went pretty good. I enjoyed when we played well as a team, but it was hard losing in over time!"

Coach Hymas: "I'm really proud of the progress the team has made passing the puck. Losing is learning."

Las Vegas President's Day Tournament:

14U Travel A

The 14U Travel A team played in the Presidents’ Day tournament in Las Vegas. Games were really competitive, with teams from California, Vegas, Idaho, Colorado, and the Czech Republic. They won, tied, and lost by 1 to a AA team, making the semifinal game against the Czech Jets, with final outcomes of the tournament to be played out on Presidents’ Day.

Mark Tenney: “It’s been a lot of fun getting to play with these guys. It’s just a lot of fun kicking butt down in Vegas.”

Colton Parke: “We are having a lot of fun in this tournament. We get to hang out together at the hotels and work together as a team. My favorite memory so far is my goal against the Steelheads. I lost the puck initially, then I got it back and shot and scored.”

Evan Jones: “The other teams were really competitive, and being in Vegas with your team is really fun. I would comment further on the tournament, but what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”

PICTURE DAY THIS WEEK:

Wed, Feb 23 and Thurs, Feb 24

We will have Lifetouch Sport photographers coming to the rink during practice times on Wed, Feb 23 and Thurs, Feb 24 THIS WEEK!! We would love all our players/coaches to be at the practices these days so we can have complete Team photos, so please mark your calendars for these important dates and times (see schedule below for your specific team's time slot)!

Please check out the Lifetouch Sport Picture FLYER for prices. The add-on section is more like an a-la-carte section, ie if you only want the team photo, you can order only G -- you don't have to order a package in order to get the team photo.

You can make your orders NOW at My Lifetouch and use the

Picture Day ID EVTMCKFCG.

Bring your players and coaches to the Peaks 15 minutes earlier than their picture day time slot (below) so your player will have plenty of time to get dressed and ready for photos. Team photos will be taken at the designated time below -- DO NOT be late for team photos. There is no way to do retakes of team photos so if your player is late for their team's time slot, your player will risk not being in the team photo.

COACH'S SPOTLIGHT: Shane Vest

Assistant Coach for the 16U Travel A Team

IMG_2812.jpg

We got into hockey because my wife said our 4 boys need a winter sport to keep them busy and so they don’t beat up our house. Now all 4 boys and 1 girl play at Provo. I started playing and coaching after watching my kids get into it. I have loved watching my kids compete all over and watching them make friends along the way as well. I don’t really consider myself a hockey coach, more like a lucky dad who gets to watch these kids play from the bench sometimes.

14U Travel Coaches

thumbnail_IMG_7459.jpg

Andrew Kitchen

Head Coach

"Nothing's fair in hockey or life, and the attached lessons are priceless."

Favorite hockey team:

I intentionally don't have a favorite professional team so I can enjoy any game I watch.

Goal for the season:

Help our kids develop their hockey skills and abilities, and use hockey to help our kids learn valuable life lessons.

Most important thing for your players to learn:

Success is measured through personal development and hard work.

Favorite hockey memory:

I played on the first-ever Utah County Lonewolves as a senior in high school. It was an absolute blast. We weren’t good at all, but had a ton of fun and learned a lot. I played other sports as a kid, but nothing compared to the thrill of hockey.

Unique about me:

In my spare time, which I have none of right now, I enjoy fly fishing and tying flies.

IMG_5235.jpg

Jacob Hickman

Assistant Coach

"Teaching skills, strategy, and running drills are clearly all critical to effective coaching, of course. But coaching is at least as much about child development as it is about hockey, and managing the group psychology of team is as important as any other part of the experience. I like to think that I am helping kids learn important lessons—Hockey is life!—and that I am keeping the psychological trauma of having me as a coach to a minimum."

Favorite hockey team:

Chicago Blackhawks, Vegas Golden Knights

Goal for the season:

At this point, my main goal is to reclaim my life from the 30+ hours per week I spend at the rink or traveling to rinks. But it has been a fun season, and I just want to see the kids finish strong and put together everything we have learned together.

Most important thing for your players to learn:

For these 14U boys, it feels like puberty has melted their brains. If we can get them to understand a basic sentence, then we are doing pretty good. Getting them to think together as a group on the ice is an even taller order, but that's the goal!

Favorite hockey memory:

My senior year in High School, our team finally made the state Sweet 16 tournament, and we tied Judge Memorial. In the shootout I deked the goalie pretty good and then I missed the entire net with my backhand shot. We lost. That was pretty cool.

Unique about me:

I am married to our superstar Predators program Youth Hockey Coordinator. That is definitely my biggest claim to fame.

IMG_1949.jpg

Tyler Kitchen

Assistant Coach

"Short term memory wins games."

Favorite hockey team:

Boston Bruins

Goal for the season:

This is my first year coaching so I’m still kind of trying to learn the basics. I’ve learned a lot from coach Kitchen and coach Hickman about how to run things and how to connect with the players.

Most important thing for your players to learn:

To have fun, it’s really easy to get caught up in the game and let your emotions take over but when you’re just having fun you tend to play a lot better.

Favorite hockey memory:

I don’t have a specific memory but some of my favorite have come when we have tournaments out of state. You get to hang out with the team and get to experience different places, rinks, and teams.

Unique about me:

I am colorblind, left handed, and was born in Las Vegas

Have a great President's Day, and bring your smiles for Picture Days!!
